The birth of Edith Maria Crook is registered in Wallingford in 1897. Her mmn is not recorded.
GRO Reference 1897, S Qtr in Wallingford, Vol 2c Page 329.
1901 Census records Edith age 3 born in Berrick. She is living with (relationship niece) John Crook age 43 born in Newington and his wife Elizabeth age 34 born in Berrick
Wallingford was in Berkshire before the 1974 boundary changes but the Berrick villages are and always have been in Oxfordshire.
I wonder if anyone has access to the parish registers of Berrick which might identify Edith's mother?

Hi Gerry - the online GRO website indicates mother's maiden name was also Crook.
As indicated by the dash (-) below.
CROOK, EDITH MARIA - (Mother's Maiden Surname)
GRO Reference: 1897 S Quarter in WALLINGFORD Volume 02C Page 329
You can register for free on the GRO website, and that will enable you to view Births (1837-1934, 1984-2020) and Deaths (1837-1957, 1984-2020).
The Births Index provides MMN (mother's maiden name), as well. And if a birth was illegitimate, the dash (-) is present for MMN.
The Deaths Index provides ages at death prior to when they appear on the FreeBMD starting in 1866. So it's worth registering with the online GRO. You don't have to include a credit card number until you order a certificate(s).

Earlier post - Gerry has already looked in Berkshire and been advised to post here :)

At the time, Wallingford RD included Berrick Salome even though BS was in Oxfordshire.

Clearly, even if she was baptised it is not available online.
Your only recourse is to purchase her birth certificate to establish who her mother was as birth entry implies she was illegitimate - all this already posted on your other thread.
