Hi, I hope you may be able to help, although I appreciate it may be difficult!
I am trying to track the burial location of my grandfather, Stephen Paul Murray, born 10/04/25 and who died 26/12/79. The only info I can find is that his death was registered in Barton. He lived in the Eccles/Salford area, but I don't know the address. His wife was called Elsie Murray.
I've checked Deceased Online but there's nothing there.
I know that's not much to go on, but if you have any pointers as to where I should look next, I would be eternally grateful :)

Welcome to Rootschat
How do you know he was buried rather than cremated?
When & where did Elsie die?

Hi. My mum said he was definitely buried, possibly with his parents. My mum had a severe stroke so cannot remember any other information, not even her grandparents' names, unfortunately.
As for Elsie, I don't know! I'm really sorry, my mum became estranged from her after Stephen's death (she was his 2nd wife and my mum's step-mother) and didn't stay in touch with her at all.
I'm sorry for starting a topic with such vagueness :(

Best to check his parents burials then in case he was with them - have you got their information?
If you find that then contact the relevant cemetery to check the records for them.

There is a family tree with his photograph on.
If you have ancestry might be worth sending a message in case the person has more information.
Tree has parents deaths in 1970 (Clifford George Murray) & 1967 (Hilda Adelaide Rice)
Burial for Hilda is noted as Warrington Unitary Authority.
Hope some of that helps.

A quick look at the 1939 register has a Stephen age 4 DOB 10/4/25 living with an Elton family in Blackpool.
Possible family grave in BP?
-
His fathers death was registered in the Middleton RD & Hilda's in Warrington
Marriage was 1918 but Clifford's death reg shows his birthyear as 1910 ???
Stephen may have been evacuated to Blackpool hence 1939 entry. Entry also includes his brother Francis now deceased

Clifford on Findagrave, Dukinfield Cemetery

So that confirms a birthyear of 1910 which means it's impossible for him to have married in 1918 & fathered a child in 1925. Tree shows him as b 1894 Canada
-
Both marriages show him as Stephen - no middle name. Also - there is no 1925 birth reg which includes a middle name
There were 4 children born between 1949 & 1957 to his first marriage to Vera - if they are still alive - are they not able to provide any info?
-
No guarantee the tree on Ancestry is correct. There was a Stephen Murray married a Mary E Rice in the Manchester area in 1924.
-
Yes Kloumann - my thoughts exactly. Some parts made sense but others were more than a bit suspect. The 1924 marriage makes a lot more sense.
Clare - to clear up some doubts - does your mother have her birth certificate? What were her parents names shown as and in particular - what was her mothers maiden name?
-
Hi, sorry for the delay in coming back to you.
The Ancestry tree is incorrect with regard to Stephen's parents (Clifford & Hilda) - my sister created that but the dates don't add up and afawk there are no connections to America.
Stephen had 2 brothers - Frank and Peter.
He was married to Vera Jablonsky (my mum's mum who has died) but they divorced and he subsequently married Elsie Davies in 1973.
@kloumann - I think you may have the correct Stephen/Mary E Rice as last night we found a photo of a gravestone. I can't upload for some reason, but it says
Mary Ellen Murray
The beloved wife of Stephen
Died 23rd March 1968(?)
Aged 83(?) years.

I think this is her death record, 1904-1968, born Prestwich, MMN, Carter. Married Stephen Murray, Prestwich, 1924.

Unfortunately, the grave is not on Billion Graves or Findagrave
