Hello
I'm amazed at how much information on a person is found by people on this site.
So I'm going to try my luck as I haven't found much myself.
I am looking for some information on my grandparents genealogies.
They lived in Glasgow Scotland.
My grandfather was Daniel Morrison and he was killed in the 1st World War (buried in France) leaving my grandmother Isabella (née McGee) with a young child, a baby really, my father who was also called Daniel Morrison.
My Dad was raised in the Gorballs where he had other relatives- the Weldons and the Blacks.
Thank you in advance for any information.

Hello Rhm and welcome to RootsChat.
I'm not an expert on Scottish research, however, looking on Scotlands People (free to search, though you need to register and buy credits to download certificates)
https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
there is their marriage in 1911 ref no 644/17 369 at Gorbals.
If you buy credits on the website you can see the image of the marriage certificate and it should give their parents' names. :D
I'll ask a moderator to move your post to the Glasgow board, I'm sure you'll receive more help there. :D

Can you give any details of the Weldon family? I had Weldon's in the Springburn and Townhead districts of the city, perhaps one of them went over to the Gorbals?
-
Hi
It looks like there is a pension record on Ancestry
Daniel Morrison born 18 Sep 1914 son of Daniel
Guardian Isabel Mand
It's on Fold 3 so I can't take a look.
He may have been the private Daniel Morrison died 20.7.1916 Caeronian Scottish Rifles but I can't be sure.

The following soldier's will is available on Scotlands People
Morrison Daniel
20/07/1916
A/7234
Private
Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
-
Your starting point is that marriage certificate. Have you viewed it yet? What does it tell you?
-
Thank you everyone. I have registered with Scotlands People as suggested and will buy credits to view the marriage certificate.
The Daniel Morrison who was with Scottish Rifles was my Grandfather. I have some photographs of him in the Unit as well as a photo of him in uniform taken with my Grandmother and Father before he left for France in WW1
Many many thanks for your replies

This all will need to be checked with certificates from Scotland's People but as a start using the index on Scotland People there's one McGee Weldon marriage in the Gorbals in 1890 Elizabeth Weldon and William McGee according to the 1901 census they have 3 children Lizzie 9 Bella 7 and William 4 There is a birth in Gorbals 1894 of Isabella McGee
In the Gorbals in 1917 an Isabella McGee or Morrison marries a Thomas March
According to the 1901 census on Ancestry William McGee was 33 born about 1868 Glasgow and his wife Lizzie same age born Ireland
There is also 7 family trees with William and Elizabeth on Ancestry

Thank you Wendy. As advised I bought credits on Scotlands People and viewed the marriage certificate of my Grandparents. What you posted adds so much to that info. On a visit to Scotland in 1970 I met some Weldon cousins of my Fathers and I now see where they fit in.
My Granny Isabella was 17 when she married so the 1894 birth fits.
Thank you everyone who have added to my search.

If you let us know the information on the marriage certificate, it should be possible to find information for your about earlier ancestors.
Your grandfathers soldier’s Will is also on Scotlands people.
-
Information on the marriage certificate:
Grandads Mother was Christina Morrison who subsequently married William Clancy. Christina's first husband ( Grandads father) is not mentioned.
Granny Isabella's parents are named as William McGee and Isabella McGee née Weldon
-
Sorry- That should be William McGee married Elizabeth Weldon
-
Daniel was born 5 Jul 1891 registered in Blackfriars Glasgow unfortunately no father's name transcribed on Ancestry but there maybe a RCE attached to his birth entry on Scotland People which will name the father
-
Daniel Morrison birth
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTFS-P8J
No father named would possibly indicate it was an illegitimate birth.
The certificate for Christina’s marriage to William Clancy in 1900 may tell you if she had been married previously. It would also give you her parents' names.
CLANCY WILLIAM
MORRISON CHRISTINA

1901 census Cavendish Place Glasgow
William Clancy Head, married, age 27 born Ireland, ship builders labourer
Christina Clancy, wife, age 28, born Glasgow
Daniel Clancy, Son, age 9, born Glasgow (this will be Daniel Morrison)
-
Yes, I ordered the birth records of Daniel Morrison (Grandad ) and it appears to have been noted as an illegitimate birth.
I guess I should then carry on with gathering genealogy information for his mother Christina.
So interesting and all this info in a single day! Thank you
-
Yes Christina's marriage certificate to W. Clancy would be your next step. :)

the birth records of Daniel Morrison (Grandad ) and it appears to have been noted as an illegitimate birth.
Did you notice if there was a RCE with the BC which you'd have to click on separately?

@Annie it's not actually a birth certificate but looks like a register of births
@ Neale thank you I will order certificates and check as you suggest.
Thanks everyone who has posted. Will follow all suggestions.
Cheers Rhm

@Annie it's not actually a birth certificate but looks like a register of births
Was it from the Parish Records (Birth/Baptism) or the Statutory Records (Birth)?
If it was the Statutory records there will be only 3 on the page, if more than 3 then it was the Parish Records.
