I am working on John Swarbrick's (my 2nd great grandfather) family. He was born about 1824. He married Elizabeth Singleton in 1850. John was born in Lancashire. On his wedding record, one of the witnesses was listed as Hugh Swarbrick. I think Hugh is John's brother, but I haven't been able to confirm it. Does anyone have information on Hugh Swarbrick?
Thanks

Do you have the name and occupation of his father from the marriage?
-
John's father's name is John Swarbrick who is listed as a labourer.
-
Thank you.
There's a Hugh born 1820 Inskip - what birth place does your John have on census records?
Death for Hugh age 76 in 1896 would fit one born 1820. He is single on census records.
Probate record gives the following information - of Elswick near Kirkham Lancs labourer died 29 Mar 1896.
Administration to John Swarbrick farmer

John's birthplace is listed as Inskip.
I was doing a query on Billion Graves and found a gravestone of Hugh Swarbrick who died in 1896. On the stone is shows that Hugh had 2 brothers, Thomas and John. Still looking to see if this is the same John and Hugh Swarbrick.
This may be the same record that you are looking at.
Thanks

I haven't seen a gravestone, just looking at census records. Will look for Thomas as well.
There is a Thomas born 1826 Inskip married to Alice on the 1891 census.
Baptisms for the 3 of them would help.

Thank you so much for the help. Your information and the headstone has convinced me that Hugh is John's brother and that Thomas is also a brother. That is a great bonus. I appreciate your help.

Glad to be of help.

Hi,
I have the following:
Extract from the register of the Catholic Chapel of Great Eccleston:
1819 Die 8 Decembris baptizavi Hugonem Swarbrick pridie natum ex Joanne et Maria [olim Hall]
Patrinus fuit Thomas Gregson Matrina Anna Gregson
John Swarbrick and Mary Hall were, I believe, the parents of your John Swarbrick, although I have not found John's baptism.
I have more information on this family, I shall send you a private message.
