Hello,
My ancestor Robert Worthington was born in Much Hoole on 19th Sept 1788. I am trying to work out if he married Ellen Parkinson at St. Leonards, Walton le Dale in 1814 or Ellen Cunliff at St. Laurence, Chorley. Can anybody help? Their first child as far as I am aware was Richard born 1815, in Preston.
Nor can I find a record of his death anywhere which must have been between 1861 and 1871.
His wife Ellen died in 1864 and was buried in St. Johns Preston.
I await in hope.

The March qtr 1864 death could be him - aged 75 www.freebmd.org.uk
-
What was his occupation - the one that married Ellen Cunliffe in 1809 was a Saddler.
Added Richards 1815 baptism gives fathers occupation as Grocer
-
On the 1814 marriage to Ellen Parkinson - Robert is a grocer. 1841 - printer
-
If it's the Robert Worthington with an Ellen on the 1851 census in Preston, born Much Hoole - then wife Ellen was born in Chipping.
You can check for the births of the 2 Ellens you have identified to see if either match her birth year and location.
-
Marriage licence (on FindMyPast) to Ellen Parkinson states that Robert was a Grocer
Sorry I see Carole has already posted that

The Robert in 1851 is an accountant if it is the right Robert and Ellen.
-
In 1861 Ellen's birthplace has changed to Longridge! (Again - only if it's the correct couple). He is born Much Hoole, so you would think it was the right pair.
-
Well thank you everybody...I don't know his occupation. I am leaning towards Ellen Parkinson but that is only because nobody in the family has had anything to do with horses!!
-
Sid -- have a look for her baptism. Was she born around the Longridge or Chipping area? Is she the correct age to have been the Ellen with a Robert in 1851 and 1861?
Your Robert may have died in Q/E March 1864 Preston Reg Dist. The age of that Robert was 75, according to Lancs BMD and the General Register Office Index. That gives a birth year of c. 1789.

There is this baptism on Lancs On Line Parish Clerk site;
Baptism: 18 May 1788 St Bartholomew, Chipping, Lancashire, England
Ellen Parkinson - Dr. of Thos. Parkinson & Alice
Abode: Chipping
Register: Baptisms 1771 - 1791 from the Bishop's Transcripts, Page 19, Entry 2

Robert and Ellen did have a daughter Alice, but I would have thought that Ellen would have named their eldest daughter, Alice - after her mother. This one's birth seems a little late from when they married.
Baptism: 18 Oct 1829 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England
Alice Worthington - [Child] of Robert Worthington & Ellen
Abode: Fishergate
Occupation: Accountant
Baptised by: James Gratrix
Register: Baptisms 1828 - 1832, Page 204, Entry 693

That's great...their second daughter was Alice after several sons. So that settles it thank you very much :)

From Lancs OPC again - this looks like it may be Ellen's burial;
Burial: 25 Apr 1864 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England

Age: 73
Abode: Hill Place
Buried by: J. Wilson
Register: Burials 1864 - 1866, Page 44, Entry 350

For Ellen's burial, in the paper
Preston Chronicle 23 April
On the 22 Inst., at Hill-place Fishergate, Ellen, relict of the late Robert Worthington, aged 73.
From that found Robert
Lancaster Gazette 27 February 1864
