I have recently discovered that a member of my family died in 1935 in Nice, France. He was living in UK until 1928. Are there any records of him living in Nice from 1928 until his death in 1935. Would there be any information on what became of his French assets?
-
Have you checked if he left a will in England or if administration was granted in England?
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/
EDIT
He died 8.9.1934 & administration was granted to Grace Murray Slade wife of Ronald Slade effects £56.11s.6d
If you are searching the probate site it will return a nil search if you look for Garlick so just input Gar & scroll through untill you come to the pages with Garlick - you need to scroll through about 6 pages as the new HMCTS website doesn't seem to recognise alphabetical order

Thank you for your response. Yes, there is a probate in England which I have seen. I think the amount was so small it possibly only related to assets in England. My enquiry is whether he had any assets in France which would have been dealt with by the French system.

Too recent a death to have anything online for France.... Have checked just in case, but found nothing.

Joger. Thank you so much for this information, I do appreciate your help.
I am unable to read it all and my French is very limited but I guess it is a death notice for William. Does it mention any assets he may have, eg a house?
Does it say where he was buried or ashes scattered. Or mention any other names.

Well done joger!
Link to the original here:

You'll need to type 134 in the box and then press aller à la page next to it.
I won't be able to look at it till tomorrow evening, but if no one else has translated it by then, then I'll have a go for you…
Date of death = 8 September 1934
Does mention that he is the widower of Annie Jackson

That's why I translated the important infos in my post above the picture which is a photo of William's "acte de décès " ( death certificate).

Domaine de créqui , chemin de Crémat , Nice , nowadays a rural gite
http://gitecrequi.com/contact.html
the birth certificate says that William lived here ( owner or tenant is never mentionned in a death certificate)

I take it you don't require a translation. So won't do this, unless you tell me otherwise, as it will take some time.

Many thanks for your kind offer Manukarik. I have taken a closer look and can more or less get the gist of it - but am wondering if the cause of death is included?
If you have the time available I would appreciate any more information or translation but I am very appreciative of the help you have given so far.
-
The cause if death is never given in a french acte de deces.

Hi
The "Archives départementales des Alpes Maritimes" also has the Census Lists, which are online for 1921, 1926, 1931 and 1936. First we should find out which part of the City the "Route de Crémat, domaine de Créqui" belonged to. I have just found a "pension Créqui" in the "quartier Crémat" in the 1931 census, 4ème canton, partie 3, page 331/332.
