Info from a Lomax family tree.
My George Lomax 1914-1975 born and died in Lancashire (Parents Sarah Hamer & George Lomax) married Mary/Mary Agnes Sproule (b. 1920 County Tyrone, N.I.).
Cannot find their marriage date or place. Checked Ans. FreeBMD and FS.
Appreciate help.
Thank you

Were the eldest children born during WW2 and registered in Bolton district? If so, the marriage may have been during the war. Perhaps in Ireland? What was George doing in the war and where did he go?
Was Mary Sproule in England when 1939 Register was compiled?

My main interest is my Hamer side. Have not explored the Lomax side yet. Sarah Hamer and George Lomax had 6 children born between 1914 and 1924. George 1914 is the first I am checking.
Regards the 1939 Sarah Hamer(m. Lomax) and daughter Hilda are living in Bolton. No mention of the other 5 children.
So George 1914 not in 1939 must have been in the army. Have not found any children for George Lomax and Mary Sproule. There again I do not know when they were married or where.
The only note I have from a long time ago is "George Lomax m Mary Spoule b. 1920.
My main problem is that nor Anc, or FindMyPast accept my Italian Bank/Credit cards.

Cannot presume that George did marry Mary Sproule. Do you yet have the 1914 birth cert for George giving an exact dob. There are from 1938-40, 2 George Lomax marriages in Bolton.
1938 marries an Emily Starkie. 2 Lomax/Starkie children born, 1939 & 1944
1940 marries an Elsie Monks. She appears in 1939 register but appears to die 1942.
1 Lomax/Monks child born 1942.
The first Lomax/Sproule child born 1943.

There's a 1944 baptism in Bolton for a daughter of George Lomax & Emily and to confuse things she has same first name as the 1943 daughter of the Lomax-Sproule marriage. This George's occupation was OHMS (working for government/civil servant)
There was also a George Lomax & Hilda who had 2 sons baptised at Halliwell, Bolton 1945 & 1947. George was in army when elder was baptised in 1945. Elder son had same first name as a son of the George Lomax-Sproule marriage.

Lancashire BMD
There are, I think 4 Lomax birth registrations with mother's maiden surname Sproule in Lancashire BMD indexes, all registered in Bolton district 1943- late 1950s. RootsChat rules don't allow us to give their names as some of them are likely to be alive. You can find them easily on Lancashire BMD by searching for Lomax births with Sproule mother's maiden surname, selecting years 1943-1960 (holding down Control button on my keyboard and selecting those years gives results for the whole run) and choosing "Ignore blank mother's maiden surname".
No Lomax-Sproule marriage on Lancashire BMD or Lancashire Online Parish Clerks.
Any chance Mary Sproule had a previous marriage ?
I'm inclined to think that George and Mary married outside Lancashire and perhaps outside England. Things to find out about Mary which may help. Where was she in September 1939? What else do you know about her apart from her having been born in County Tyrone in 1920? When did she move to England? When did she die? Was there an obituary in a newspaper?
Did George leave a will?

Maiden Stone, George died 1975 with dob 18.5.1914 Bolton. Mary Agnes died 2003 dob 18.5.1920.
There's a probate record for George, not sure about a will.
There is also a marriage of a Mary Sproule sq 1939 to a William S MacKay. One MacKay/Sproule female child born dq 1940.
The war register was taken seemingly 29.9.1939. Cannot find a Mary Sproule/Mackay on 1939 register though.

There was 1 Mary Sproule birth registration in County Tyrone 1920, 2 in 1919 and 1 in 1921. All in Castlederg Superintendent Registrar's District. Almost all the Mary Sproule births in those years were in County Tyrone + some with other surnames born to Sproule mothers.
There was also an Agnes Sproule born in Belfast Dec. 1919.
There may have been other female Sproule babies registered without a forename.
All registered births in Ireland 1864-1921 should be indexed.
Northern Ireland didn't exist as a separate entity in 1920. Ireland was partitioned by an Act (1920) of the UK Parliament. The state of Northern Ireland was created 3rd May 1921. The government of the new state of Northern Ireland formally withdrew from the newly created Irish Free State in December 1922.
Website for BMDs in Northern Ireland after 1922 is GRONI (General Register Office of Northern Ireland)

You can do a free name search of indexes for a 5 year span. No result for a George Lomax marriage 1939-1943. There was a Lomax marriage registered between 1944 and 1949. You have to log in to see any more information.

There was a Mary Agnes birth amongst those (she was a twin) but born 11 Aug.1921-

No other Sproule birth match the date given in 1939 register.

Maiden Stone, George died 1975 with dob 18.5.1914 Bolton. Mary Agnes died 2003 dob 18.5.1920.
Date of birth given for Mary at her death doesn't match any of those Mary Sproule birth registrations I found. She or the informant of her death may have been mistaken about dob. Perhaps a relative confused it with George's birthday.
The only May birth for a Mary Sproule in County Tyrone was 1919. A Mary Sproule registered 1921 had official dob 23rd. June. It was registered in September, just inside 6 weeks which I think was the time allowed, so it's possible that baby was born earlier than her official dob.
A search for Sproule birth registrations without specifying forename turned up a Stella Sproule born 17th May 1920, registered Killybegs, Glenties S.R. District, County Donegal. There were no female Sproule babies registered before they had a first name.

Ok folks
Thanks for all that info and your precious time. Its gets confusing.
All I know as mentioned I had a note and nothing else. I have since checked Anc. There is a tree with George Lomax 1914 married to a Mary Agnes Sproule 1920. Cannot see any details with actual dates or contact the tree owner for reasons mentioned above.
No I do not have the BC for George 1914. A quick look on FS came up; George Lomax born 2nd. qtr. 1914 in Bolton, Lancashire, mmn Hamer. As regards Mary Agnes have nothing apart from she married George.
Ladyhawk : that seems to be Mary Agnes
Appreciate all your time and effort.
