Title: Captain John Basden of Baker's Cross, Cranbrook
Post by: Leigh P on Sunday 13 March 22 07:33 GMT (UK)
My 9xgreat grandfather John Basden was referred to as Captain John Basden, clothyer on his son's baptism record in 1658 at Cranbrook. I hope someone is able to help me with why he was referred to as a captain and of what. Another descendant believes he may have been a captain in Cromwell's army.

Thank you

Leigh

Have you tried searching TNA records for any mention of it.

He appears to be mentioned here though not as Captain
