Title: 2nd Booster
Post by: Gadget on Tuesday 08 March 22 22:59 GMT (UK)
I was wondering if anyone in the 75+ age group had heard about the promised  2nd booster.

Not a word.

My Dad is approaching 90, high risk, and living in a nursing home that's just gone into lockdown for the umpteenth time, and they haven't been told a thing about when they might expect them.

You're probably not in Scotland, but yesterday NHS Borders updated their boosters info for those 75 and over. Link: http://www.nhsborders.scot.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/covid-19-vaccination-programme/

Second boosters for at-risk groups
We will soon begin inviting those aged 75 and over and those at highest risk of severe Covid-19 disease forward for their second booster vaccination.

People in the following groups will receive blue envelopes with appointment details:

* adults aged 75 years and over
* individuals aged 12 years and over who are immunosuppressed

These people will be invited as they become eligible from at least 24 weeks after their last booster, with the first groups receiving appointments from 31 March.

Our vaccination teams will begin vaccinating residents in care homes for older adults from 16 March 2022.

I had my 2nd Booster the week before last.  I had a letter recommending it, as I am on chemo-therapy treatment.  I just took my letter and current medication to the local walk-in centre.

So it looks as if the  non-immuno-suppressed in England haven't been contacted yet. We had our 1st booster in October and I think the 6 mth/24 weeks should be up in early April but there's nothing on our local website or nationally that I can see.

I am also having chemotherapy, and I had my fourth about a month ago. Being immunosupressed my first three jabs are regarded as primary, and the fourth my first booster.

My brother was one of the first to have his initial jab.  He had his fourth a couple of weeks ago.  A friend who is registered with a surgery in a neighbouring village and should be getting a fourth is still waiting.  Her practice was very slow to get going in the initial rollout.

My GP was surprised I hadn’t been invited for a second booster as I’d received the letter about having a PCR test at home and if that was positive being entitled to some new treatment. Anyhow GP wrote letter to take with me and I’m having the jab at the end of the month.

I hope all vulnerable people get their 2nd booster soon. Inevitably since all legal restrictions were removed, cases, hospitalisations and deaths are on the rise again.
Today on government website
cases: up 46.4% on a week ago
hospitalisations: up 12.2% on a week ago
deaths: up 19.5% on a week ago

tests conducted in last 7 days under 4.5 million.

Yes, Lizzie. I've been watching it creeping up again - today's cases are 24K more that last Wednesday

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases?areaType=overview&areaName=United%20Kingdom

and deaths, cases admitted to hospital and tests are all up.

I have noticed that mask wearing is decreasing.

Hopefully what has been stated will make people wear masks and behave sensibly ,so many of us felt it was too soon to relax.

Very pleased for those in special categories who have had their booster .

Masks have almost ceased to exist here in the rural marches, young and old alike, even the local farm shop has given up.

Seems you have to wait for your GP or hospital consultant to invite you, I have no change since our surgery website was last updated last July.

Those of us who can remember the raging inflation of the seventies might be more worried about that than catching COVID.

I spoke to my local pharmacist a couple of days ago and he had heard absolutely nothing although he is administering first, second and booster injections currently.

My husband aged 75 with some health issues (but was not on the original vulnerable list) received an NHS letter inviting him to get his 2nd  booster. He did a walk-in (no appointment needed apparently) at a nearby 'cottage hospital' last Friday afternoon, was the only one there, job done. They suggested Moderna as his other 3 were Pfizer & they said a different one could provide added protection. No after-effects.

I checked the figures a while ago, Lizzie. I wish that they might bring the 2nd booster forward but was told that we fit 75 and overs have to wait until the Govt announce the start of Spring!

I shall continue wearing an FFP2/N95 mask in public indoor spaces for the foreseeable future.

Though, this is nothing compared with those poor poor people in Ukraine  :'(

Ooo! I am 85 in a couple of months ,hope I get my second booster soon.

But as has been said and was predicted ,COVID will seem  as nothing by comparison with Putin’s atrocious acts.

I don’t minimise the grief of people who have lost loved ones to COVID .

What a lot Boris has had to deal with ,he needs all the support he can get.
Relative trivialities must wait ,there are more important ,more urgent things to sort out.

No word as yet, but different parts of the country are giving it to 70 year olds whilst much older people have had no notification yet.
Obviously seems to depend on the Health Authority.
Have heard of quite a few people having Covid even after their first booster .
Glad your second booster is in the offing Gadget.

I volunteered in a vaccine centre.  We appear to be gearing up for after 3rd April with staff numbers.  Although I’ve seen a few 75+ coming in through the normal booking system for their ‘Spring Booster’.

Have heard of quite a few people having Covid even after their first booster .

I know three people:
One in late 70's got it over Christmas, had her first booster in October.
A couple who both got it at the end of last month. She is late 50s, he is early 60s, her booster late November, his mid November.
None were particularly ill, fortunately.

Had mine last week which is four months and three weeks after my first booster. Our local vaccination centre allows all over 75s who have had their first one more than three months before to walk in and get it.

We have been so careful. As I wrote my husband tested positive a week ago. Had his last booster in September 2021 and got an email for his 2nd booster a few days ago.
He is in his 80s. I tested positive later in the week.
We are the third couple I know of similar ages who have had covid in the last few weeks plus several individuals.
One friend has had the two vaccines and two boosters but still got it.

I had my second booster on Saturday. I booked it a month ago with a letter from the GP. The clinic was then only doing them monthly. In the intervening month I received a letter from the cancer hospital saying I was entitled to the second booster. I attended on Saturday with the GP letter and the hospital letter but no one wanted to see them!

I know a number of people who have tested positive recently all can trace back to where they got it from. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed and being sensible.

We're in the over 75s group.

Newcastle have got it sorted. They have NHS mobile walk-in centres around the wider city area and a timetable of locations and times, etc. is issued each week. I looked up our nearest and we went just after 11 am. No one else there all very straight forward.

So next one is the Autumn one - I assume with our flu jab.

Thankyou folks, just phoned our Health Centre ,and was told they are now taking bookings, but we have had no notification we could do that, most of the people I have spoken with have like me been waiting to hear from our GP Practice ,well the Health Centre at least.
Anyway all booked in at our Civic Hall for Saturday April 2 nd  11-30.

My first booster was October .
Hope you all feel better soon ,especially those with serious  illnesses ,which are enough to cope with at the best of times .
Thanks again.
Viktoria.

I had a letter about three weeks ago telling me I could book my second booster, but as I'm housebound I have to wait for the nurse to come to me.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend, having heard nothing, made a casual enquiry while shopping in Boots and was given the booster there and then.

Last week I happened to access the main BBC web-site and there was an article on the forthcoming booster programme and a contact address for the NHS to make an appointment which I did.  I managed to obtain an appointment for this coming Thursday at one of my local pharmacies.
