Afternoon All
I'm not sure if this is possible, but I am looking for information on 2 children who are listed in the workhouse on the 1851 census
James Mantle, Age 9, Pauper, Born in France
Henry Mantle, Age 4, Pauper, Born in France.
Any information on these two, especially dates of entry and exit of the workhouse, and the jackpot would be parents names or other family members.
Kind regards
Tracey

I can't see any reference to admissions to the Workhouse in this period, but you might find this of interest -

I have found the entry on the 1851 census on Ancestry but they are not listed as "paupers" but as "scholars".
Havent been able to find anything else but am having problems with the Ancestry website when searching generally.

Have you noticed that on the 1851 census (where I agree it says scholar) - the end column is ticked for both boys 'Whether blind or deaf and dumb'. That may be an error - but several entries are ticked.

This is mentioned in the link given by BumbleB

Sorry -- BumbleB beat me to it when she posted her link, as I was writing my message - I hadn't read the link.
My sincere apologies.

I'm wondering about those "ticks" in the last column - you will notice that all the persons so titled are NOT from the Birmingham, Erdington, Aston area. :-\

They are listed as paupers in the ‘relation to head of family’ column.

There is a lot of detailed information relating to Aston Workhouse on the Birmingham Archives website, found using their catalogue search.
http://calmview.birmingham.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=GP+AS&pos=4
This includes the information that, sadly for you, there are no admission and discharge registers and very few other documents relating to workhouse inmates.

Thanks everyone for your input, as ever it is much appreciated.
Lots of information has been tracked down as per the other thread, and I am still evaluating that.
This one was more specifically for the workhouse records, but sadly it looks like they might not be available at all.
Once again though, thank you.
