Title: Summary week ending 6th March
Post by: louisa maud on Monday 28 February 22 08:47 GMT (UK)
Thought someone might have beaten me to it this morning

No a lot for me to say this morning, don't want to comment on the current situation as bad as it is, feel very sad for those involved and their families

I hope all those who are flooded are getting dried out, it is surprising how far water travels

It seems a nice bright morning, not so much of a blue sky as yesterday and Saturday but it is dry

Take care  and lets all try to to be positive

Morning LM
I tried to be positive by posting photos of plants in my garden onto another thread on rc, but I always have bother putting photos on here. Either the size or the name is unacceptable. I’ll try again later but  I do find it frustrating. It’s easy on fb.
Glad to hear those who had flood issues are safe if sad at what they have to tackle.

I almost logged into the new week at about 1am, I just could not sleep again, I have these "can't sleep night" from time to time, but I spent my time finding something that will help a cousin, he said there is an unknown man in the same grave as my aunt and uncle, he isn't unknown, he is our gt uncle, so I didn't waste my time, I put it to good use

It does look like spring here today, we just have to go day by day as the weather is quite changeable

I am hoping to meet a friend who has just had an op and been on Chemo, fully isolated so I haven't seen her,  her husband takes her out for a drive and she walks as far as she can, so today I am hoping to meet her for just a short while and have a coffee and a chat

TaKe care

Shrove  Tuesday tomorrow.
Gosh I used to make so many pancakes ,when our children were  small , then grandchildren ,
My O,H. Loved them ,cheeky monkey would put  sugar and lemon  every turn
when rolling them up.
We liked butter and cinnamon sugar as a change .
I  put melted butter in the mix ,they are then a very nice tender texture .

Cheese pancakes are lovely with salad ,not an omelette, but a nice quick lunch.Good wrapped round asparagus.
Well ,must get on,could do with some sunshine so I can see what I am doing
re cleaning and polishing the kitchen units.

Seeds are really expensive now, I am fed up with tasteless tomatoes so might have a go, there used to be one,a great  favourite ,was it  Alisa Craig?
Best of luck with yours,l

I discovered Premier seeds this last year, most seed packets are about £1 and the packets are huge (apart from tomato's) yes alisa craig is a popular one. This year we are trying Crimson Crush and Cherry sweet aperitif https://www.premierseedsdirect.com/product-category/vegetables/vegetables-t-z/tomato/page/5/

Yes give it a go, they are worth it for the taste and so good for you.

I didn't manage to respond to all the posts last week although I did read them.
TY, hope your health improves soon.
Ruskie, very sorry to hear about the problems caused by the weather there, I hope things are looking brighter in all ways! Caroline, such a worry for you too, your son sounds very resilient, best wishes for him and his wife too.

As for the situation with Ukraine, I find it difficult to put anything into words about it. I can only say I agree with other Rootschatters who have commented so eloquently.

I don't have anything interesting to report I'm afraid but happy to read all your news everyone.

This afternoon I visited the twins - my first time seeing them since Christmas Day.  Had to cancel my last planned visit as family were hit by COVID.   They were a little wary of me at first, which I had expected, but soon came round.   Darcy still not walking yet but crawls round swiftly and pulls herself up to a standing position.   Macy running round like a mad thing.   Have always said that Macy is a go-getter and Darcy a thinker.   My niece says that is indeed panning out and she can clearly see the differences in them.  Macy has no fear, and will play with any other children around.  Darcy is quite content to play by herself and do her own thing.   Has no interest in what her sister is getting up to.

It was so nice to see the family again - the babies love their older brother (18) and sister (12 in April).   Their faces light up as soon as they appear.

Last Saturday met up with my sister and our 2 friends for tea/coffee, carrot cake and a lovely gossip.  Met at M's house and stayed around 4 hours.

In a months time the clocks go forward - doesn't seem that long ago that they went back!

My baby great grandmother daughter looks for Flash Harry, seems to be coming on so quickly ,” talks” to her Daddy and FH,very communicative.

The little girls are alike but very easy to see which is which in the photographs you send.,lovely.

A rather good programme on TV this evening BBC 2.
The Rise of the Nazis ,much that is similar in the present crisis ,in a strange  way was rather re-assuring , the downfall and megalomania and paranoia of
Hitler.
The plots to assassinate him.
We can but hope !

The ordinary Russian people are amazing ,so brave in speaking out against the invasion of Ukraine.

Hope everything is well for everyone and also hoping the flooding in Australia
and here quickly abates.
We won’t forget you Roobarb if you don’t post as often ,sometimes there really is no news .
I thank you everyday , the diaries have truly been like chatting to friends.

First tall daffodil opened in front garden this morning for St. David's Day. Small ones in a pot opened last week. While I was looking at daffs I noticed a bee on grape hyacinths, my first bee of 2022.
Self-sown Honesty seedlings have appeared above ground.
Honeysuckles and a clematis have new growth. Netting and fencepost a honeysuckle is attached to has come loose. Summer jasmine has been badly affected by storms.

Bad news from Australia ,severe flooding and already fatalities .
Hope RootsChatter’s families are all safe .
My niece is in Sydney , North Ryde, hope all is well.

Another dark day such a difference from yesterday , no sense to the weather is there.

Off to make leek and potato soup, wonderful old pressure cooker ,many years of faithful service.
Only had rice pudding on the ceiling once in 66 years!

Well must get on, plenty needs attention.
Hope everyone is well and that your relatives in Australia are safe.

Our daffs are in bud and growing nicely but not ready yet. No grape hyacinths yet ( we're always later than more southerly folk )

I'm in coastal S.W. Scotland. The lone daffodil sentinel faces due south in S.E. facing front garden. Pots of mini daffs (all scented) + pot of grape hyacinths are there too. A few blue chionodoxa in the rockery have flowered. There should be masses of them soon. Tight buds on daffs in western, part shaded back garden.
Several pots of tall daffs in big pots in a front garden further along street.
I should plant more yellow and blue crocus + more yellow daffs in front garden + replace old tulips in pots. Winter/early spring colour scheme in front garden is blue & yellow. That colour combination is uplifting. Ceanothus is the only blue-flowered shrub left. My hebe collection included one which bloomed in winter.

Bought a local newspaper, published today, at the little shop. A former district councillor for my ward is in an article about help for Ukrainian refugees. She belongs to a local branch of a Chernobyl Children charity and used to host some Ukrainian girls for a month each summer until 2019 and Covid. The network has kicked into action for refugees.

Death of author & illustrator Shirley Hughes has been announced.  :(  She was 94. Fond memories of "Dogger" and Alfie and his sister, Annie Rose. "Doing an Alfie" = a child wearing wellies on the wrong feet. Jan Pienkowski, another of my favourite author & illustrator of children's books died 10 days ago. Pienkowski was shown the paper cut-out technique in a Polish bomb centre when he was 3. Another child refugee who became an acclaimed author and illustrator was Judith Kerr; she lived to be 95. I was relieved that Michael Rosen survived Covid 2 years ago. My community and others placed teddy bears in their front windows or front gardens during the first lockdown so that children  could go on a bear hunt during their daily hour of exercise. It took place while Rosen was in a coma. Reading Rosen's "Let's go on a Bear Hunt" to small children while they joined in with actions and sound effects was always good fun.  :)

Such lovely children’sbooks you mentioned M.S.
Such details in the illustrations !
One reading scheme had Ben the dog, Meg the hen.Jip the cat and a pig .
Ben did the washing up but his boots were always back to front facing away from the sink.
It did make the children laugh.
Birds seem to destroy yellow crocus and I like them the best.
My daffs are in bud, tulips don’t seem as if there are any flower buds .
No Muscari at all!
,Hyacinths up and in bloom ,no pink though only blue and white .
Not all have grown .

We a dull dark day all day!
Mostly raining too.

More cold weather on the way.

Well kitchen tidy up ,a nice cuppa and a biscuit andI think,an early night.
Need to go to Drs, then Chemists to order my next prescription ,they don’t do it for you  now.Was a wonderful service until Lloyds seemed to go into meltdown.
Hope everyone is alright .

It's the very few (accidentally planted - mix up in Garden centre, i suspect) purple crocuses that the birdies go for in my garden, Viktoria. Most of mine are yellow or white, and planted round a raised corkscrew Hazel, visible from the conservatory, and follow the now faded snowdrops. Hyacinths from houseplants planted out seem to thrive. Daffs just starting, further round.

Well another day gone by, dull and dark for the most part.
Daughter has the cast off so just a splint and bandage.
The scar is from on the part of her hand where the thumb pad is very rounded to almost her elbow!
Can feel the plate when she moves her thumb - exercises-
she has to do.
It will sort itself out most probably.
Got an email from Age U.K.asking me to  join other people in sending a letter to
Rishi Sunak, re energy prices, but as we are boycotting Russian supplies ( many NHS Hospitals have Russian energy)  it will surely go up even more than the predicted rises.
My screen has split again, don’t know what I do!

Cleaned out my display cabinet today, housing all my treasures , Milestone Wedding Anniversary presents ,little things the children made or ibought ,
A silver ( plated ) tea set we bought my future in laws for their 25th.
MinLaw got fed up with cleaning it ,so gave it to me.
Other silver, some China with sentimental attachments ,a little pot containing a four leaf clover ,we went to Shrewsbury for the day just after we got married ,we went to a nice park,The Quarry ,sat on the grass and looked for four leaf clovers ,I did not find one but OH did.

Pretty presents bought over the years , a few trinkets etc.
A Roman brooch, and a miner’s checking in and out disc, show an interest in something and number two son will find a relevant artefact .
Well ,almost finished a fiendish crossword ,could not remember a word for “ facilities “ on boats, it has come to me—— heads, so I can sort another clue out now.
Look after yourselves folks .
Is Threlfall Yorkie’s post the last one or am I not getting them for some reason ,?
Sleep well,Viktoria.

Somewhat subdued continuity perhaps Viktoria with large scale events in places impeding on normality! Nice to read of some everyday happenings and garden delights, your daughter's arm now free of cast …

March has followed February with the daily numbers of infection climbing steeply in NZ and especially since RATs have been introduced widely, hospital admissions and ICU and mortality rates also risen but not so much in comparison with the active case numbers and vaccination percentages are quite high too, delays in testing results for PCR or procuring the RATs have been an issue. The 'mandate' protest and encampment on Parliament grounds particularly dominated our news midweek with extra police enforcement to move them on after 3 weeks since convoy, turned into nasty riot, had become rather feral really with all sorts joining in and adding additional agenda to original 'peaceful' grievances. Borders for travellers opening up and requirements for isolation more free as well, however now residents self isolating are creating staffing issues throughout, deliveries seem to be affecting consumers, schools and workplaces etc. Most things available in my weekly shop this week, noticing an increase in some prices  here and there, bread shelves almost bare of commercial brands but assortment of instore bakery items.

Seems people are more or less making allowances though, I phoned the council earlier today as our rubbish collection was missed Wednesday morning, other side of road was done and assumed it would have already been reported as know other streets have also been affected with shortage of drivers but apparently not, logged in now though for a late pick up! Not worried about my own as very little in it, checked a few times to see it hadn't been added to by others, just very full to overflowing bins further along are very ripe in the heat and a stench to walk past!

Generally days are going by rather quickly for us, winding up the business before the end of the financial year along with usual activities and preparing for testing the market on our property, selling a few things and sorting but not much yet entering the skip!

Looking forward to catching up with family up north for a couple of days before the week is out, facetime them but haven't been together since Christmas week. Older granddaughter has just been invested in to SeaScouts as a Kea, she'll be turning 8 at the end of May and looking forward to being a big sister again early May, little sister will be 2 and a half when baby comes. Not sure daughter will be able to hold out teaching until end of term at Easter, she's been struggling with the heat and humidity of Summer with a mask in the classroom 4 days a week. She's having to take the children outside for singing as that's been too difficult inside, just generally fatigued each day understandably but otherwise pregnancy OK and she's had her regular health checks and booster.

Cheers all for the end of another week and wish all safe and well ...

Well a quiet day, sunny then overcast late afternoon ,but got a “ white wash” on the line early and all dry for mid afternoon .

Booked transport to Rochdale Hospital, for a week today.
Eye clinic.

Chat with number two son then number one, good going all in one day!

My screen has split again, not sure what causes it ,usually I can get it sorted but not this time.
Flipping nuisance,!

Shopping tomorrow, not much
needed, freezer full ,likewise fridge but some fresh veg and fruit.
Post letter to Age UK, to be forwarded with millions of others to Rishi Sunak ,re   The Government’s  response to higher fuel prices,Age U.K. sent emails asking for letters that they would forward.
Given present happenings I can’t think there is much that can be done.

Hope everyone is well ,and hopefully conditions in flood areas have eased and all are safe.
Look after yourselves ,we are in momentous times and do things now before you wish you had.
Sincere good wishes to everyone .
Viktoria.

"This year we are trying Crimson Crush and Cherry sweet aperitif."
Sarah- I hope you like Sweet aperitif. I grew the two years ago and found them very well flavoured. I did grow some last year, but all my tomatoes were rather a failure; weather all wrong, I think.
Daffodils coming out, and the white ribes, which has already had the odd queen bumble bee checking it out.

Hope everyone is well.
Only signs of spring here is some meltage around the fences and under trees.  It is supposed to go up to 16C on Sunday but then temps down again, and no doubt we will get more snow.
So no flowers blooming, probably not until well into April.  It is lighter when I take the dog out at 6:30 a.m., and this morning a cardinal was singing.  They will sing and sing well into summer.
Spent a few days with daughters in Niagara-on-the-Lake, not a lot to do, due to weather and Covid restrictions.  Got lost on the way home, had a nice detour, ha ha.  Stopped at a Walmart where they were handing out boxes of Covid tests.  I did take one I had before I left to go on my trip - the directions were so small and confusing (even with a magnifying glass) I went on YouTube where there was a clear and understandable video.
Some restrictions were lifted here on Tuesday - no longer have to show proof of vaccine in restaurants, etc.  Had coffee with a friend, first time since omicron hit.  Monday went to the eye doctor, will have new glasses when the come in.  Dark blue this time.  Trifocals progressives and cost a fortune.
Heartsick about Ukraine.  Canada has the most Ukrainians after Ukraine and Russia.  They have been immigrating here for four or five generations.  My hairdresser is from there, I like her, we will talk and then have a comfortable silence, she’s not one to talk one’s ear off, which I appreciate.  Cuts my hair well, too!  Hard to watch the news and a helpless feeling.
OH is back at curling, happy to be, but seems to have pulled some muscle and hobbling around.  Hope he recovers soon.  He said the hack was wobbly on Wednesday and he didn’t come out properly.  He did go today though, so apparently not too bad!
Sad to hear about floods in Australia and convoy nonsense in NZ, hope both are done soon.

Good to hear everyone’s news. Have been doing a bit of reading about the Ukraine/Russia history to try to understand why. Various viewpoints, but none of them justification for Putin’s actions. I think many wealthy Russians are now feeling the pain. Never mind.  ;)

The cleanup continues here. We had a storm on Thursday morning which hampered cleanup efforts for many. Mainly cloudy days with a little sun and quite humid. We made a few trips to the dump on Wednesday. Next we need to hire a ute (utility vehicle - with open tray) and make a couple more trips to the dump after removing some wood chip panelling - something we’d wanted to do for years but had never got round to it. Many boxes of children’s toys, lego, toy cars etc all needed rinsing and put out to dry. Time consuming. Am managing to get some washing done and dried.

Still a lot to be done, but taking this opportunity for a good clear out, which is quite satisfying.  :)

Just popping in to say hi, nothing much to report. Went to the pub the other night, that was good. Very low infection rates reported here, I know a lot of people are not testing now but I assume that situation is the same throughout the country so the comparison still stacks up well.

Sorry to hear about the situations in Canada and down under. I hadn't realised that you had such a large Ukrainian population there Diana. Hope the weather settles down for you Ruskie and you can finish your sorting and drying out.

Did my bit of shopping this morning ,had a good laugh ,just by chance spoke to someone I had not met before , he just happened to say he had met two people he used to know when he lived in Manchester, the Gorton area.
I said my friend at College lived in Hyde Road near Belle Vue Zoo and fairground .
We vied re who was born in the poorest area-I won, he did not know you could get mugged by Nuns  and  Police dogs  would only go in threes!
( actually that was another area a bit nearer M/c town centre ).
Got  chatting about the shop my friend’s parents had and some spectacular baths that have been saved ,wonderful glass abd tiles” Gorton Baths “ and
the  Belle Vue Aces ,the Speedway team .
Had laughs about the area where I / he lived ,the industry etc.
Then on the outdoor market a man was singing the Willy Nelson song” You were always on my mind” just to himself ,so I joined in ,his wife was having a good laugh .
I knew them as regular shoppers and visitors to the Church Saturday coffee mornings .
The stallholder joined in too, just a moment’s madness to counteract the  other  madness going on.
Charity boxes in Tesco for Ukraine, cash and goods - alongside the boxes for
families struggling here.

Checked on Morning Service time tomorrow,11. O’clock..

A most beautiful bright day ,just dusk now.
Off to have a shower and do my hair so no one tries to take me back to the institution !

Thinking of so many people and hoping all comes well especially for those  in Ukraine, those fleeing there and not forgetting Afghanistan .
 Look after yourselves folks.

Very glad to get that news, I would have been and I know you were very worried , lovely she is coming to see you.

Just watching “ Dunkirk” ,gosh what momentous times we have seen, and are again.
Hope everyone is as well as can be expected ,such helplessness and real anger on my part that another megalomaniacal madman has started another war.
It takes a lot to rattle me but we are all different and I truly hope people are being as calm as they can , we may need our inner resources for a good while.
Meanwhile my hyacinths are in flower ,a couple of daffs, more unopened buds
coming on.
Hope I get to Church tomorrow.

I live about a block and a half from the Russian Embassy.  Rosario, my fruit and veg lady, has her shop directly opposite its front door.  It is a massive building built during the Soviet era when it was thought that, because of its elevation, Quito would be good place to put a listening post to monitor what's going on in South America.  In recent years, it has appeared to be mostly empty and one seldom sees anyone coming or going.  I went over to buy some apples and mushrooms today and found that there was a small anti-Russian demonstration underway - about 12 or 15 people, seemingly all Ecuadorians, and about the same number of cops to protect the building if things got out of hand.  Most of the passing cars honked in support.

Closer to home, just twenty yards from my front gate, are the installations of RTU Ecuador [the Russian television station].  All activity seems to have stopped there.  I don't know if they're still broadcasting; I watch very little tv and never RTU.

Whew!
I should not like to be so close to that.

Shopping yesterday,at a Supermarket ,there is a “baked in shop “ bakery, they do a nice loaf, half white flour half wholemeal.
The member of staff usually there bears a distinct resemblance to Putin!
A very pleasant person with  a very strong Russian accent ,she has worked there for good number of years.
Another customer was waiting for her bread to come from the slicer ,she and I did comment quietly on the great resemblance .

Can’t think what Putin hopes to gain as in the gaining he is destroying so much.
He probably wants it as it was before ,when all Eastern Europe was part of the Soviet Union.
It is the possibility of nuclear war that is so terrifying, our planet is in real trouble ecologically and we are almost at the point if no return ,nuclear weapons would surely mean the end ,so what would he have then ?

Might invite my nearish neighbour round this afternoon,so isolated ,almost no sight and very poor hearing ,I have to really speak loudly for her to hear ,she has an appt at the hearing clinic on 16 th, if her daughter can’t take her an ambulance ,not a fully kitted out one more like a mini bus with gadgets ,will collect her and bring her home but it needs booking a week before
I have given her the number ,might have to that for her .
How she manages I do not know.

Well if I am to get to church this morning I had better shape myself ,have to wait 30 mins after first tablet to eat or drink so thought I would look at my iPad to see how things were.
Look after yourself everyone.

Must look at TV for the latest news re Ukraine .

I'm one of those people who seem to slow down during winter's dark dreary days and since I retired I've no reason to to do more than drag myself about doing the bare minimum.

Today, I arose with the lark to see bright blue skies and warming yellow sunshine and the first daffodil to bloom in my garden.

A further lightening of the spirits was reading that the Ukrainian defenders have actually captured alive the world's most wanted Russian pilot, who had also bombarded Aleppo civilians,  and caused the massive migration northward from Syria to Europe.

I hope that shop assistant doesn't realise she resembles Vlad P. or she may consider plastic surgery. Is her accent really Russian? There used to be a pleasant Polish woman who served me at a supermarket cafe.

Bury Polish Club was co-ordinating local collections of aid last week. Eccles has now taken over the task.
A village in this county was gridlocked one day with people delivering aid to a local depot, set up by a farmer with 2 Polish employees. The farm was once tenanted by a certain Robert Burns. A Robert Burns Humanitarian Award is given annually. The present farmer is a past winner in the annual BBC Food & Farming Awards.
Topic of "The Food Programme" on Radio 4 this lunchtime was food in Ukraine, how some Ukrainians are managing to eat now and how, in normal times, Ukraine feeds the world.
I'm thankful today that I'm able to visit a local store, that goods I need to buy are on the shelves and that I can afford them. "Give us this day our daily bread ... and deliver us from evil".

My mother urged me to shape myself on many Sunday and school mornings. I'd better shape myself now and get things done.  :)

Yes she is Russian, they sort of chew their words then sound down their nose .
She used to have a naughty Scottie dog called Ruskie, ( sorry Ruskie) grumpy
- and her husband used to walk it .
It was totally disobedient ,,appeared stone  deaf but wasn’t and just ignored almost everything.
I’d had a Scottie, and whilst loving with us strangers did not exist.

Glorious day ,neighbour came round . She  seemed to think she had been given a blood transfusion ,but it was just a little bottle ,She had mentioned B12, so I said perhaps it was a B12 injection but she was sure it was a transfusion.

Did some batch cooking for freezer, chicken casserole.
Lots of veges, good with mashed potatoes or rice.

Hand washed some woolies ,had them for years , M&S, at least since 2004.
Had them for a holiday when we took grandchildren to Yorkshire with the new puppy which was six.months old .

Well another week gone by ,don’t  they go quickly when you are having fun!

Cheerio, look after yourselves ..Viktoria

I went to the corner store this afternoon and they had an American flag draped at the entrance.  I asked, "What's up with the flag?  The teenage daughters said, "We're supporting NATO and the United States against Russia."  Whoa.

Bit previous?
I think hanging back will give Putin more chance to back out more gracefully.

Then again——-?
I am sick of wars,WW2,Fighting in Cypress,Palestine, Malaya, Korea, Kenya,  Afghanistan,Falklands,The Balkans,  —-where have I forgotten?

Women should rule these things ,now that observation will probably throw  the  cat among the pigeons.

Viktoria.

You're joking, of course!

We have plenty of occasions which illustrate that the man just has to win in practically everything he and/or his country does.  Cheating at Olympic games is one instance.

He is thoroughly enjoying the "mind games" that he's currently playing.  One of his latest is the evacuation of Mariupol with his last minute directives of " yes they can leave" -- then his order of -.. "No they can't leave".

We've heard from some captured Russian soldiers that they thought they were on a training expedition.  The Russian State is using the same tactics as the old Soviet Union used in WWII.    The population is a massive 144 million people; thus life is cheap.   The army they usually send in to wage war is that the first uniformed men to meet "the enemy" have just completed two or three weeks training of how to aim and shoot a rifle and most will have probably bought their own uniform - they are considered "fodder"..  When they're killed off  and/or scattered, the next set of men sent in to meet the enemy have had a few months training with equipment and tactics.  The elite professional soldiers are withheld until they are really needed.

Rational, staid, sensible, UK experts have appeared on my TV stating that the rest of the world should not take any active part in this obliteration of the Ukraine as Putin could wage nuclear war on the rest of us.   Besides Chernobyl, his soldiers have already got control of one of Ukraine's other nuclear plants.  This plant has no food/water/bedding for its workers who usually work in short shifts then go to their nearby homes to eat and rest.  When they're extremely tired they could make mistakes and we could all be fried.

Putin is relying on everyone kowtowing to his every whim.  Did you see the quiet smirk on his face when one of his "advisers"/ministers  was so nervous that he couldn't utter a simple statement of how much he admired President Putin?

I'm all for blasting his estates with their mansions and heated swimming pools to smithereens.

I currently have a free subscription to an app that lets me read a wide variety of electronic magazines and newspapers. This morning I had a quick look to see what the newspaper headlines were, one of the tabloids caught my eye:

"Mad Vlad 'Dying of cancer '" proclaimed the headline. This is apparently according to US and UK  spies. The article goes on to say that Putin is in agony from terminal bowel cancer and that his puffy face is due to chemotherapy or steroids.

I couldn't possibly comment.  ::)

Lovely day here, was able to do quite a lot of gardening in the sunshine.  :)

I understand all that Rena,  but unless he is intent on total  world  destruction he has to stop  somewhere.
I did query my statement with” Then again!—?”
I really hope he is ill, and it is not just a rumour ,however ,my neighbour whose son has recently died very suddenly, was found after a PM, to have died from Bowel Cancer - only in hospital for a few hours.
No puffy face but of course no drugs either so that is perhaps why he looked as usual, not puffy.
There is always someone else who will step into Putin’s shoes just as with Hitler.
Viktoria.

Followng on from the ailment suggestion, out of curiosity I looked at Putin's birth date chart, which is 7th October 1952:-

October 7 1952 health astrology

Natives born under Libra horoscope have a general predisposition to confront with health problems or diseases in connection to the area of the abdomen, kidneys and the rest of the components of the excretory system. In this respect people born on this date are likely to suffer from illnesses and health issues

I'm pretty sure his prime minister is made from a similar crooked mold.

"Putin's birth date chart"

I hope our governments have better sources of information than star charts.  If not, we're definitely up s* creek.

I read somewhere that the Putin face has undergone some plastic surgery. If he is keen on going under the knife, perhaps he is also happy to have other cosmetic procedures - any puffiness may be due to fillers or some fake facial enhancers.  ;D

(I must admit that I haven’t noticed his face being particularly puffy)

Oh no Viktoria. A Scotty dog called Ruskie? What a poor choice of name. ;D

I think it might have been because Ruskie is a friendly term ( or was ,when my Dad was a POW in WW1,there were Russian prisoners there too, treated even worse than our soldiers. They were popular because they danced and sang etc,I had photographs but might have thrown them away when I moved ,I hope I didn’t.) for Russians ,the lady is Russian so a nice name really.
Except the Scottie was rather aloof, with a mind of its own .
There was another living nearby too, Henry, he would only walk where he wanted to go ,his owner spent ages waiting for Henry to decide Right —-or—- Left?

Rumours rumours, to wish cancer on someone—— but sometimes the lesser evil is to be wished for ,he has put the whole world in jeopardy.

Let's hope Putin does not have any terminal illness, for if he has he will not care about the world or anything else his actions result in.

According to the newspaper the speculation is that as he knows he is dying he wants to leave a twisted legacy. Twisted indeed.

What a way to be remembered !
Thousands of deaths ,and all for nothing .
I would like to see his puffed up face when he’s dead and  how surprised he’ll
be when a big man with a white beard, sitting on a throne says”  right!I want a word with you!
Didn’t think I existed did you?”

Except I’d be dead too ——

Just being silly but what a tragedy, for everyone , an ecological disaster above and beyond the human tragedies already happening .
All we can do is keep going and be prepared to be very unselfish when the time comes.

;D That is my take on it too, but I thought a Scottish name for a Scotty dog might be more fitting.  ;D

Well ours was named Heather,
the other one I knew was as I said ,named Henry .
Our dogs have been Ben,( Westie) Rusty ,( Irish Setter)
Pru (,mixed breed )Tinker,( a Tasmanian devil until we got her sorted then a Patterdale
emerged and was a joy )
People call their pets what they like ,often something with meaning for them.

The most premature twins are now ready to go home ,well Harry is today, Harley the little girl later this week, she weighed 500g.
They were 15 cm long,what a miracle - 22 weeks gestation.
“ Our “ twins are miracles too,
the photos are lovely, such different characters.

A bright sunny morning I think ,not opened the curtains yet .
Phoned my friend but no answer - her B/day today.
Left a message but will phone in a while.
Hope all are well, looking after yourselves and keeping active.
Viktoria.

I had the same thought when I saw his nuclear weapons alert.   I know we get winds from the direction of Russia, but i can't recall whether winds blow from the UK eastward to Russia.

I hope he isn't like one of those ultra possessive people who have separated from a partner and then acts on the basis of;  "If I can't have him/her, nobody can"

Read in the news today that scans have shown that catching Covid, even a mild form has slightly shrunk the size of the brain in the parts related to sense of smell and memory. Great, the gift that keeps on giving!  ::) It's not known whether this change is permanent.
In the meantime, perhaps I can use it as an excuse for forgetting things.  ;)

:-[Not sure about the wind direction but we do say of a fierce Easterly wind that it was coming “ straight off the Urals”.

However ,just as when I was little and you saw in the cinema The Pathe News
showing racing on what looked like a circular route, the term “ each way “
meant it did not matter which way round a horse ran, clockwise or anti clockwise, because some horses did not behave at the start ,so people could place a bet on the horse running either way!
Well — I was only about eight.  :-[
