Hi,
I’m trying to nail down the birth of my maternal Great-Grandmother, Elizabeth Murphy.
She was born in Co Carlow in about 1957 according to the 1901 and 1911 census although her death cert suggests that she was born in 1861. She married a Joseph Mark Kavanagh in St. Andrew, Westland Row, Dublin, on 19 Nov 1882. The marriage cert lists her parents as Sylvester and Catherine (no maiden name) who lived in Co Carlow. One of the witnesses was an Anne Murphy (sister or sister-in-law perhaps?) also from Carlow. She settled in Ranelagh Avenue in Dublin and had 8 children. She died in 1940 in Kimmage.
I suspect that her parents were Slylvester Murphy and Catherine Nolan from the Rathvilly/Clonmore /Hacketstown area. I have found information for 4 of their children Mary (1844–?) Bridget (1845–1922) Patrick (1848–?) and Anne 1850–1891 all baptised in Clonmore, but I can find no record of an Elizabeth (1857 or 1861). Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a transcribed marriage record for Sylvester Murphy and a Catherine Nolan on 19/1/1843 in Clonmore.
Catherine's address given as Liscoleman.
No parents names given.
Witnesses Richard Steritel and Sally Kelley.
A note states - 'Husband name given as Sill'.
I cannot see a baptism for Elizabeth in Carlow though.

Hi Pennines,
Many thanks for your prompt reply and the information about the marriage of Sylvester Murphy and Catherine Nolan. I'm still sure, however, that these are the actual parents of my Elizabeth Murphy

Sorry I should have said "not sure"
