looking for information about parents of William Norris family. William was born in about 1821 county limerick. He married Catherine Gardner and moved to Cork County. I cannot find any information on his father or mother. all I have information from census form. Thank you for any assistance. Maggie

Welcome to Rootschat, Maggie.
Where do you have him in the census?
Presumably this is the marriage

A witness is Cornelius Norris - have you searched for this name? Might be a brother.
I see that William had a son, Cornelius.
There is a marriage 1844, Cornelius Norris and Elizabeth Roche with another Norris witness.

There is a transcribed baptism on Roots Ireland;
William Norris - baptism 16 Sep 1821 - Galbally and Aherlow
Roman Catholic
Father John Norris - Mother Anne Martin
Witnesses; Thos. Martin and Sarah McCann
(Another child - Jane Norris, was baptised in the same place to these parents, on 1 July 1823.)
Winesses; Bryan McCann and Bgt. Norris.
I would have thought, following heywood's find, that a Cornelius would have come into the picture though - but those 2 children are the only ones coming up at the moment, born to those parents.

With regard to Cornelius and family.
There is a son, Patrick, baptised 17th March 1846 to Cornelius and Catherine. Their residence shows as ‘Quit M.nt’ which is, I would say, Quitrent Mountain’.

Your William is living there in 1901
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cork/Kildorrery/Quitrent_Mountain/1152290/
There are baptisms for children to William and Catherine Gardner Norris:
William 1st November 1846
John 1st October 1848
Cornelius 7th April 1852
Residence Quitrent Mountain
You can see here that the townland is close to Limerick.
https://www.townlands.ie/cork/condons-and-clangibbon/farahy/kildorrery/quitrent-mountain/
It does look as though William and Cornelius are part of the same family.
Baptisms for Kildorrery parish do not begin until 1824 here

It's on the Cork-Limerick border and NNW of the village of Kildorrery.

I realised that and should have explained it more clearly. ;)
I was thinking that perhaps there wasn’t much of a move for William.
The records required are so early of course which makes it more difficult.
Petty Sessions records show Various Norris names in 1850s, Quitrent Mountain: Michael, Maurice, Patrick and Francis.

Hi Irishgal72 and MaggieN
My husband’s 3x great grandfather was John Norris, a merchant of Limerick born 1702, he had 10 children and I have followed most of them through, they were CoI at that point. The Roche family were distantly related. I’m not at my pc at the moment to check names to see if they are listed.
Have either of you done an ancestry DNA test yet? My husband has done one since the start of this thread… sorry I missed it last year.
