Would appreciate any help on finding information on David Morrison Johnston b. 19 September 1891 Old Monkland married to Agnes McLaren in 1919 Bargeddie Scotland. David came to Australia with family and worked in the Aberdare Central Colliery near Cessnock but unfortunately died in Dec 1935. I only have information from the family notice that he is buried in the Presbyterian section Cessnock Cemetery.
I have a photo of his children which has the names Billie and Margaret.
I am trying to trace the families of these children and believe they could still be in the area around Cessnock.
Would really love to know what happened to Agnes after David's death as she was still young enough and may have remarried.
Appreciate anyones help! Thankyou!

There is a death registered in NSW for a William Thomas JOHNSTON, with parents David and Agnes in 1986. (20678/1986) Not sure if this is "Billie" (William in the death notice). :-\ Will do a bit more looking.
Modified to add:
Death notice for this William:
"JOHNSTON WILLIAM THOMAS - Aug 21 1986, at hospital, late of St Marys, beloved husband of Gloria ... loving brother and brother-in-law of Ruth and David, Meg and Ray, and brother-in-law of the Landow family, aged 66 years."
(William Thomas JOHNSTON married Gloria Hermoine LANDOW in Randwick, Sydney in 1941 (27341/1941).
So the siblings David and Meg fit, and I guess the age is about right?
Do you have when the children of David and Agnes were born? Also, to help look for Agnes, do you have her parents names? In the death notice for David it mentions John McLAREN. :)

There is a death in 1972 for an Agnes Beatrice JOHNSON (54157/1972) at Ryde with parents John William and Sara. A possibility? The only death notice I can see for her does not give any family details, just that a private family service was held at Rookwood Crematorium on 30 May 1972.
I'll ask a moderator to move this thread to the Australia board. Lots more experienced RootsChatters to help there. :)

Agnes' father died in 1929 at Collie, Western Australia. (thanks Jorose)
I see a William Thomas JOHNSTON (next of kin - Gloria JOHNSTON) enlisted at West Maitland (near Cessnock) for WWII. He was born 30 May 1920 at Collie, WA.

honda - you said that David Morrison JOHNSTON and family emigrated to Australia - did you just mean David and Agnes? Were their children born in Australia?
-
Also enlistment details for David John JOHNSTON (NX171838) born 23 Jun 1922 at Cessnock, next of kin - Agnes JOHNSTON.

There is a marriage for a David John JOHNSTON to Ruth Alma MOON at Petersham in 1949 (16436/1949). (Ruth being the apparent spouse of David on his father's death notice.)
I can see David John McLaren JOHNSTON and Ruth Alma JOHNSTON on numerous electoral rolls - at Wentworthville. David is a plumber. He died in 2005. I'll look for the death notice.

NSW privacy laws mean that births can be only be searched after 100 years, however there is also this birth in 1921 at Cessnock - ---------- JOHNSTON, parents David and Agnes (53537/1921).
Modified to remove name.

Wow everyone has been busy............Thankyou!
Maddy your Margaret born 1921 seems interesting. So does David John McLaren Johnston. That McLaren gives good vibes.
I have David John Johnston born 23 June, 1922 Enlisted Woollongong Service no. NX171838 but can't verify the connection.
I have researched Agnes McLarens family in Scotland and no McLarens came to Australia only David Morrison Johnston and Agnes McLaren (born Sarah Agnes McLaren). Agnes mother and father are John McLaren and Sarah Jane Camfield (Jeweller in Edinburgh)as per Scotlands People Marriage's
A relative had a feeling that Agnes Johnston returned to Scotland after David's death but can't find info to clarify.
I've tried to find the passenger list as well to see if children born Scotland or Australia.
I have a David John Morrison marrying an Olive Rae Raefield who I thought maybe Davids son living in the Cessnock area and have left messages but nobody has connected back. I've even sent the funeral home of Olive a message to send them a message but so far nothing.
I appreciate everyone's help and I feel we maybe getting close to a break through.
Once again Thankyou!

The death notice for David JOHNSTON, husband of Agnes, who died 3 December 1935 at Cessnock clearly says his father in law was "the late John McLaren of Harvey Street, Collie". Collie is a town in Western Australia. :)

There are at least 109 people listed on passenger lists into Australia via Fremantle 1919-1922 with the surname JOHNSTON and 218 as JOHNSON at the National Archives of Australia's website.
It is possible that the 1921 birth that Maddy has found is for a person who may be still alive, and therefore that person is entitled to privacy of the individual, which in NSW extends to their actual names.
As it is more than 100 years since the birth, the record is available for any member of the general public to purchase anonymously. It will include information about her parents, their origins, ages, occupation/s, and the nee name of baby's mum.
It is entirely possible that the baby, born in NSW, is NOT connected in any way to our OP's quest. The death cert for David should give the number of years he had lived in NSW and in any other state. That then helps to determine how to find David and Agnes on inbound passenger lists. An official transcription is an effective but cheaper option to obtain the details on the NSW D.C. It should give the names and ages of the children of the marriage, when and where married and other info that will help validate the information our OP already has obtained.
JM.

Apologies, I'm usually very careful to not include names of people unless sure they are no longer living. I have removed the name of the child born to David and Agnes in 1921. :)
To add to the evidence that other members of the McLAREN family came to Australia, the WWI enlistment of William Alfred Camfield MCLAREN born in c1893 in Edinburgh, enlisted 1916 in Kalgoorlie are available to view. Next of kin, John MCLAREN of Western Australia.

Hi Maddy - Thankyou for your help and my apology regarding John McLaren.
I joined ancestry again on the weekend and have found a link to all the McLaren family and you are quite right both John and Sarah Jane McLaren came to Australia.(I did not know that)
It appears some of the family came to NSW later. Its interesting that in 1937 John Camfield McLaren lived in Sefton, Bankstown North and later Randwick where he died from a horse kick. My mother lived in a nearby suburb of Punchbowl so we are getting close to joining the dots.
Maddy I will attempt at getting the death notice again from the paper, thankyou! I only have the funeral notice from the Labor Daily dated 4 December 1935.
Yes I think the best option is to purchase a death certificate for David Morrison Johnston and hope this will reveal all my information.
Once Again thankyou!

Hi Maddy
I have looked for a death notice for David Johnston but can only find one family notice from the Aberdare Central miners Lodge on 4th December 1935. Are you able to tell me what paper you found the wording "the late JOhn McLaren". Sorry I looked everywhere. Appreciate your help.
Regards Honda

Interesting that John Camfield McLAREN died on Cowper St, Randwick - I grew up just around the corner, know the area very well!
The death notice for William Thomas JOHNSTON was in the Sydney Morning Herald. I didn't put a copy here at the time as it lists children and grandchildren - happy to send you a copy if you'd like?

Maddy you are terrific ....................THANKYOU
I have been putting in the wrong dates never expecting notice to be so far from his death date.
I guess I was too busy reading your reply to notice you had sent the details.
You have solved my answers.
