Looking for information on Adam Stuart a writer in Edinburgh who is interred in East Kilbride Old Parish Cemetery. Information was taken in 1974 when it was recorded "Adam Stuart - Writer in Edinburgh died 9th July ? aged ? years. He was a writer in 1793. To date I cannot find any other information. I would appreciate your help. Gray 865

What is his connection to your FH? Are you descended from one of his children?
Have you looked on Scotlands People for his death?
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Where did you get the info from that he was a writer in 1793

"Writer" is an old Scottish term for a lawyer

You will find information about him on Scotlands People in “wills and testaments”

Carole, I have no connection to Adam Stuart. I'm researching East Kilbride Old Parish Churchyard.
info. on writer 1793, from a book of the History of East Kilbride parish and village. It was in relation to the Kirk and the monies for the Poor of the parish to be made out and delivered to Alexander Stuart of Torrance or his brother Andrew Stuart the papers were written and stamped by Chas. Menzies clerk of Adam Stuart, Writer in Edinburgh 10th April 1793. I have viewed and studied the Stuart of Torrance family tree and there is no Adam Stuart in their long line.
Neale 1961, I should have thought of this, I've now viewed this, it has numerous pages but I don't see any connection to East Kilbride. Gray865

There are other documents (Testament Dative/TD) for potentially another Adam Stewart, writer in Edinburgh:
Adam Stewart
20/11/ 1817 and 22/11/1817
writer in Edinburgh, who died at Pitlochry
TD
at Dunkeld Commissary Court
Refs CC7/6/8 and CC7/9/4
Spelling of Stuart and Stewart as we know combine.

However, back to your entry Neale ;) there is a death announcement in The Scots Magazine on 1 July 1799 which states:
9 (June? must be as it looks to cover other dates in month) At Torrance, Mr Adam Stewart, writer in Edinburgh.
So, further reference to Torrance.

There is this marriage showing:
Miss May; Adam Stewart, writer 8 May 1783
www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/edinburgh-parish/the-register-of-marriages-for-the-parish-of-edinburgh-1595--volume-53-nid/page-98-the-register-of-marriages-for-the-parish-of-edinburgh-1595--volume-53-nid.shtml
Scotlands People show:
ADAM STEWART and MAY STEWART
08/05/1783
685/1510 251
Edinburgh
Assuming we have the correct Adam, could the connection to Torrance be through May Stewart?
For example, there are two birth/christening entries for a May Stuart in Kilbride:
Father JOHN STUART 10/06/1751
Father ALEXANDER STUART 13/01/1754
Added:
From the marriage, May's father is given as John Stewart. www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYMC-8P6 Maybe the original image might include some additional details that could help further.

Great work, Monica. :) Looks promising.

Oh how I wish I had your expertise MonicaL. You appear to have information at your fingertips.
This information sounds very very promising. I'll look for May Stewart on the Stuarts of Torrance family tree and research Adam Stuart through details in his will and testimony. Thank you Carole W,
Neale 1961 and MonicaL. Gray 865
