I have difficulty locating a few children of James McCafferty (born Stranorlar Co Donegal) and Ann McCafferty (nee Mailey/O'Malley, born Convoy Co Donegal). Their children were as follows: James b 1877, Margaret Ann Barr 1877-1946, John b 1883, Catherine b 1884 d 1885, Mary b 1886, Elizabeth McKeown 1886-1952, Bernard 1888-1889, Michael b 1892 d 1972 married Rose Ann Gillan. I have further details on their families if anyone wants them. I have nothing on James, John and Mary. Their mother Ann McCafferty died 30/11/1925 aged 70, cannot locate death cert for James, have exhausted all avenues via scotlandspeople. They lived in Gourlay Place, Garngadhill, Rosemount Street. Other names associated were Queen, Gillan, Ward, Banks, Timoney, McAvoy, McAuley & Barr. Any assistance appreciated.

When mother Ann died in 1925, did it show her husband as alive or deceased?
What about from the children's marriage certs, what showed for their father on the registrations?

When Ann died in 1925, was she a widow? Who was the informant at her death?
Possible death for James (senior)
MCCAFFERY JAMES 70 1918 644/5 377 Garngadhill
Possible death for James (junior)
MCCAFFERTY JAMES 42 1917 644/5 536 Garngadhill
There is a John McCafferty born 17 Oct 1883 in Glasgow who takes out USA Naturalization in June 1918.
His occupation is Marine Fireman. Not married. Arrived New York April 1908. Last address London.

Hi Monica, I had Theresa just forgot to include her. Thank you. When Ann died in 1925 her son Michael was the informant, yet on her death cert it stated "married to James McCafferty", but on the 1911 census she is listed was WR (widow), the James McCaffery who died in 1918 aged 70 is not him either. The man in 1917 is neither of the James's either. My only guess is James snr came back to Donegal and died here, there is one match but can't confirm it's him or not. I'm making headway but not much with the ones that married, especially Elizabeth who married McKeown.

Jonathan, don't know if you have a subs to Ancetry. There is a family tree for Elizabeth McCafferty/McKeown www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/154283942/person/102061940057/facts
It shows at least 4 children for her with John McKeown following their marriage in 1907.

Am on ancestry but need to pay a fee to access that info for the link you sent. Can you access it? Elizabeth had 7 children that I could find.

Much appreciated Kim, I have all that info just nothing on the aforementioned James snr & Jnr, John, Mary, etc. Regards Jonathan

to add to last post....
James McCafferty's mother must have died prior to Civil Registration in 1864 as I did not locate her after that time. As for the catholic parish registers, they are not available for Stranorlar, co Donegal on National Archives site.To access them you will have to go onto a pay per view site. Kim

Jonathan, when you post you should tell people what you already have, so it saves duplication of efforts and the possibility that other rootschatters have possibly used their own credits on sites to try to help.Kim

Cheers Kim, know that too, as I live in Stranorlar, I think his mum may have been Nancy, but that's ok for now. Trying to sort the children of his I have nothing on and also his death record, I think he may have come back here and died.

Much appreciated, I have info on most of the children except those mentioned above. Thank you for your efforts also.
