Hi.
Can anyone shed a light on an old pit. I was informed this was called Fan blast pit. It was between Washington and Birtley. Maybe around the Mill House pub around pre 1906ish. Was it an off shot of one of the main pits?

The Durham Mining Museum site has no record of a pit with that name.
I think 'fan blast' was a name given to forced ventilation of a shaft.

From an account of the 1885 disaster at Usworth:
The mine is ventilated by means of a large Guibal fan blast, 45 feet in diameter.
