Hello
This is my first post here so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I'm researching my Plant family ancestors. I have been able to locate the graves of my grandfather and great grandfather at St Helen's with the help of the staff at the Town Council. I know that my 2x great grandfather is buried there and I have the inscription, but it is in the old section of the churchyard. (I've looked but been unable to find it). Could anyone point me in the direction of a grave plot location plan please?

Hi, and welcome to rootschat :)
When was your 2x grandad buried, looking at an old map it seems the municipal cemetary was created in about 1885, before that burials would have been in the much smaller church graveyard.
Looking at the satellite view and street view it may be that many of the headstones in that area have been removed for safety reasons, and the inscriptions recorded.
Maybe contact the church by email or on their Facebook page to see if this is so and if the church still has the original churchyard plan.

Hi Mike
Thanks for your advice and your welcome. :)
He died in 1878 and is buried with both his wives and two children that died young.
Your right about headstones. Many have been laid flat so that you can't read the inscriptions. Others are overgrown or so weathered that they are illegible.
It would be nice to know where the grave is. Records are kept on site for the municipal graveyard but not the old graveyard.
I suspect if I go to the Cheshire record office I will only get the inscriptions and not the location.
Cheers

Hi Jonnie,
I have just seen your post about your relations. Is it St Helens churchyard, Northwich you are referring to?
-
Hi Suzie :)
Yes it is St Helens churchyard Northwich.

Hi,
What are the names you are looking for if you dont mind me asking? I'm a Plant by marriage and we found a headstone next to the church which was Plants. I do have a photo (somewhere in the files).

Hi
I think I know the grave you are referring to which is that of William Plant and others ( who are something of a mystery to me).
I’m looking for Andrew Plant and his family. I’ve added an attachment with the inscription.

Is your husband from the Northwich area? If so I guess we could be related. I have made a document that you may be interested in.

Would that be Andrew that married Ruth Hitchin per chance? If it is I hadnt realised they were buried in St Helens.
-
Yes he is from Northwich . That would be great to see it to see if we are related.
-
The very same!
Was my attachment visible? It has the inscription.
He is buried with his Ruth and his second wife Mary Hind and children who died young.

Cant see attachment. Will get one of my lads help see if they can sort it lol. My husbands great grandad is Thomas (born 1868) born to Andrew and Ruth. I have just asked him and he said he didn't know he was buried in St Helens.
-
Sounds like we are first cousins. Thomas was my great grandfather. Samuel my grandfather and Brian my dad. I know where Thomas and Samuel are buried at St Helens. Both are unmarked graves.

We met up with the Plant clan a couple of years ago and we met your dad. It was a good afternoon. We were planning to meet up again but a certain virus upset the applecart. Hopefully, we are going to try and meet up again this year. Maybe we need a day in St Helens on the hunt for these elusive ancestors.

What is your husband’s father’s name if you don’t mind me asking? I’m guessing Thomas or Philip.
