Title: Graveyard Query

There's a graveyard at Cwmavon (not Pant Du) - down a lane (now a cycle  track), alongside the Oakwood Pub, which is opposite the Parish church & graveyard of Michaelstone Super Avon.

Could be the patch to the right, in front of Church Square on Google maps:

I'm looking for a burial and there's no record of one at the Church. I know there are graves at this site, actually been there even, but was looking for someone else at the time. I've completely forgotten the name etc of this graveyard to try and find burial records. I think it was a cholera cemetery. I'm sure there was even some info online about it, but can't seem to find anything.

Anyone got any further info on it please?

Having read you request for help I have emailed St Michaels Church, Cwmafan (Cwm Avon), Port Talbot, with the following result, albeit somewhat edited:

Might I enquire if you are able to confirm by name, what appears as a small open area, potentially with what might be a single line of grave stones/ memorials, seen on todays Google Maps at search reference: 51.61336, -3.76382.

If you are so able to identify this possible burial ground by name, I shall forward the information to the enquirer on RootsChat.

The graveyard in question is the Memorial Garden. Before my time in the parish the memorials from this graveyard were placed around the wall and an area was created for the burial of cremated remains.

Thanks a lot John G Much appreciated. It must mean then that my man is not there since his name does not appear in the St Michael's burials.

Have you tried contacting West Glamorgan Archive Service to see if they know of this small burial ground?

Who knows, they might even hold a copy of the burial records.

House Rules on RootsChat discourage the posting of email addresses, but they do have their own website with a 'contact us' page.

Hi Sam,
I'm originally from Cwmafan, the part of the graveyard was built over with a "new" housing development, they created a memorial garden with some of the headstones, I can remember as a child it was not cared for very well, but I do believe that only a selection of headstones were erected in the memorial garden.
The old cemetery was a part of. St.Michaels it was separated from the church by a railway line now long gone. If the grave you are looking for was in this part there must surely be a record of removal of headstones. I too I'm stuck looking for some of my Ancestors graves at St Michaels, wishing you the best of luck with your search.
