Hello all
Re: Gotobed
Hoping for more information ie father's names, age, occupation...
Joseph STACEY m Elizabeth GOTOBED on
11 Oct 1819 St Thomas A'Beckett, Ramsey, Huntingdonshire
I also have a baptism date ONLY for their son Joseph, either Hunts or Cambs 11 Jun 1826 (bc1820). Unable to locate a Baptism online. These dates were handed down to me by a now deceased researcher who cited these records (pen and paper days).
I draw a blank as to who Elizabeth Gotobed belongs to. (I have DNA matches to Ely Cambs Gotobeds but unable to find the common ancestor!)
The couple end up in Whittlesey in c1825.
There are Gotobeds in Great Stukeley - Edward Gotobed and Catherine Whyman.
(the Stacey family were from Great Stukeley too)
Also see there are Gotobeds in Kings Ripton
Any snippet of information would be fabulous
Much appreciated
Rosalie

Marriage is transcribed on FreeREG but no other details.
Sometimes witnesses are named but no Fathers names pre Sept 1837 civil reg of Marriages.
Do you have them on Census with dob/pob?
I will see what I can find.
Trish :)

Hi Trish
1841 census for Whittlesey - Arnolds Lane
Joseph 45yrs and
Elizabeth Stacey 45yrs
Not born in County
Joseph Stacey b 1792 (assumed Ramsey) d 1842 Whittlesey
Elizabeth Stacey (nee Gotobed) b1793 or 1799 (place unknown) d 1848 Whittlesey
Their marriage, it was noted as both from the St Thomas A'Beckett Parish
(can only assume Elizabeth travelled where ever there was employment)
Kids
Joseph Stacey bc1820 possibly Ramsey Chr 11 Jun 1826 (???)
William Stacey bc1825 Chr Whittlesey St Mary 5 Mar 1825 - father labourer of Delph
Thomas Stacey bc1834 Chr Whittlesey St Andrew 13 Oct 1834 - father labourer of High Causeway, Whittlesey. Thomas buried 28 Mar 1834, late of Watson's Lane, Whittlesey, aged 7 mths
I am sure there would have been a few more kids but no records as yet.
Are the 1841/1851 census complete for Huntingdonshire? Hunts seems near impossible to research.
I was hoping that some Gotobeds could be traced.
Records for Ramsey appear scant as well.
Thanks for your help

Marriage;
06 Nov 1854
St Bartholomew, Newborough, Northamptonshire
Joseph STACEY, 34, Widower, Labourer, Father JOSEPH a Labourer
Mary JOHNSON, 38, Widow, Father William JOHNSON, a Labourer
Witnesses, William STACEY/Sarah STACEY
Grooms father is deceased. Bride, Groom & both Witnesses signed with their x marks
Strange unless Mary married a Johnson also
-
Joseph Stacey Jnr m 1st Sarah Fordham then Mary Johnson (nee Staines)
No sooner was Jo and Mary married they took advantage of the Bounty Immigration scheme and headed for Tasmania. A marriage of convenience I suspect. (my Family is with 1st wife).
Well researched on the Stacey side.
Gotobed is well researched in Ely HOWEVER my Elizabeth Gotobed stops with her.
If I knew who her father was then I may possibly kick the door down.
The clue to Elizabeth Gotobed is in the marriage and any relatives in the area.

Looking at Mary Johnson 1851 Census;
JOHNSON, JOHN mmn STAINES
GRO Reference: 1848 J Quarter in PETERBOROUGH Volume 15 Page 344
Death Reg;
STACEY, JOSEPH age 48
GRO Reference: 1842 J Quarter in WHITTLESEY Volume 14 Page 99

Thanks for that as help not going over what you already have :)
-
No worries Trish.
I wonder if it is well worth purchasing the Cambs/Hunts parish registers.
I am not sure if they are indexes or transcriptions.
Some one may know reading this thread.
There is an index of marriages for Ramsey on line. No other Gotobeds!
I can only assume Elizabeth was from another area and was working within the parish at marriage.
Stacey family were from Ramsey c1760s prior to that Great Stukeley.
Elizabeth seems to elude me! sigh.
-
1841 Census is not much help as Joseph/Elizabeth are just not born in Cambridgeshire.
-
If only she had lived until 1851 Census!
STACEY, ELIZABETH age 56
GRO Reference: 1848 D Quarter in WHITTLESEY Volume 14 Page 98
Hopefully someone can come up with something for you from parish registers :)

Outside chance?
EZBETH Goodtobet Bapt 06 Feb 1791, St Andrew, Woodwalton, Huntingdonshire
Father JOHN
Siblings;
MARY Gotobed 24 Mar 1793 (John/Ann)
SARAH Gootobead 08 Feb 1795 (John/Ann)
ANN Gotobed 20 Aug 1797 (John only)
WILLIAM Gotobed 20 Jul 1800 (John/Ann)
All above on FreeREG
-
Thanks for that Trish
This may tie in with Kings Ripton cluster.
Now my head will be spinning.
Hopefully I can connect the dots to some trees already established.
Cheers
Rosalie

May be connected to Abbots Ripton on FreeREG, burials there;
19 Oct 1804 for JANE Daug of John/Ann
08 Jul 1805 JOHN a Labourer
05 Feb 1809 ANNE a Widow
-
Marriage on FreeREG 03 Nov 1780 of JOHN Gotobed of St Ives** to Anne FARROW
Bride and Groom signed X
Eliz Farrow a witness
If that is the Marriage of John/Ann who bapt Woodwalton there must be children born elsewhere 1781-1790ish, possibly Cambridgeshire?
-
I had in my data base John Gotobed and Anne Farrow but no links.
(constructing various trees :-\)
Going back to Great Stukeley and possible father of Elizabeth is as follows
Edward b1760 Kings Ripton son of John Gotobed and Elizabeth Caitlin
John b1759 Kings Ripton (parents as above)
Edward m 1st Catherine Whyman - dau Elizabeth 1792!
John m Anne Farrow - dau Elizabeth 1791!
I will develop these trees and see what happens.
DNA is sketchy with 1700s and not many people research that far back.
John Gotobed and Elizabeth Caitlin are now problematic! no more records yet.
If the marriage of Stacey/Gotobed reveal the father then I am half way there.
Thanks again
-
I seem to recall searching rootschat some Gotobeds from St Neots....will have to look that thread up again.
Only one child of John Gotobed and Anne Farrow - Ann born 1797 died 1882 in St Neots married Colbert.
-
Trish
Just going back to your post re marriage
John Gotobed and Anne Farrow.
The date 3 Nov 1780, John of St Ives (St Ives, Hunts is key to linking him back)
Place of marriage on Ancestry is
Bluntisham cum Earith, Huntingdonshire
Chipping away!
-
That is all we can do is chip away!
I gave up in some lines c 1750 as too hard to be totally sure of the family line.
Hopefully someone can help you more.
Trish :)
-
Hopefully DNA will match me and my cousins to Farrow or Wyman families.
Off to a good start so far.
In Jo Stacey marriage (grandson to Lizzie Gotobed) they named 3 children William. All the Williams died in infancy. So William must have been a link to the grandparents.
-
Trish
Guess what!
I have a DNA match to Farrow from the same area and same parents.
Thanks for being part of the journey.
Now to work on the branches for more DNA matches.
WOW :D

Excellent ;D
