Hi all,
I wonder if someone can assist me please with this quandary?
I have in my tree an Elizabeth Ribbans (bapt. 1822 Gt.Blakenham (d/o James & Mary Gant). This Eliza married Charles Banyard 1844 Ipswich Registry Office and all censuses 1851 to 1881 her birth place is listed as Blakenham.
I now have found a marriage of Elizabeth Ribbans aged 20 (d/o James) to James Chenery 26-5-1844 Ipswich.
James Chenery is bur. 1847 in Ipswich and Elizabeth Chenery went on to marry Isaac Simons in 1849 Ipswich.
Now in all census 1851-1891 Eliza lists Rushmere as her pob in about 1826. The only entry that I can see is for Elizabeth Ribbans bapt. 17-3-1831 (d/o James & Mary Ann) in Rushmere.
So I'm wondering if I have followed the correct Elizabeth Ribbans. Clearly there are two families having children with same names.
Any help would be appreciated.
Alan

How did Elizabeth arrive in your tree?
-
Gissing, Norfolk - 18 August 1822
Elizabeth, daughter of James (Labourer) and Lucy Ribbans of Gissing.
-
BUT the marriage in 1844 - FreeBMD show the bride's name as Eliza Ribands :-\ What makes you think that Eliza Ribands is the same person as Elizabeth Ribbans?
-
14 September 1820 - Gissing, Norfolk
James Ribbans (x) and Lucy Breeze (x) by Banns.

Hello
the other Elizabeth 's marriage to James Cherney in 1844 at St Helens gives her as 20? d of James labourer.
And as you say she gives her birthplace as Rushmere 1823/4.
There is a baptism at Rushmere 17.3.1831 to James and Mary Ann Ribbands labourer which could be a late baptism, with Elizabeth older child.
They have another children Sarah 1.7.1821
But ultimately everything fits with your Elizabeth born 1822 at Blakenham so why look for other problems?
Why would Elizabeth born at Blakenham change her birthplace to Rushmere and visa versa?
plus in 1841 the Ribbans and a family Banyards seem to be living next door to each other at Blakenham

James Ribbans 45 ag lab y
Mary 40
Charles 20
Matilda 15
Aaron 12
ps 1851 the other one is in Ipswich Woolridge road
James Ribbands 70 ag lab Rushmere (1861 says born 1779)
Mary 66 ditto
Sarah 30 laundress
William 15 Necton grandson
Hannah 5 granddaughter Ipswich
It's possible the James from Blakenham is the son of James from Rushmere.

Hi folks,
Thank you all for your input - I'll stay with the Elizabeth Ribbans I already had (born 1822), I feel that I have got the right person.
Brentor boy - How did Elizabeth arrive in your tree?
Elizabeth is only a small twig on my tree and having a name and not any other details made me go looking.
With a name of "Ribbans" like mine made me curious.
I'll close this request now.
