Hello,
Can anyone tell what age Bridget Barratt is in this census? I don't know anything about her yet, but can see she's a widow. The cross through the age is very unhelpful.
Thanks in advance!
Ellie

Where is this household please? Also where has she said she was born?
If we had that information someone may be able to find her on another census.

They are in Warrington Lancashire and ancestry has her transcribed as 2 months old but she is a Widow! Lodger born Ireland. Possibly Betsy's mother?

Thanks @crisane
I've been unable to locate her anywhere else with accuracy. She was born in Ireland

I looked at the GRO index for Betsy's daughter Ellen's birth in Warrington and the mother's maiden name is Walker so not Betsy's mother, maybe a mother-in-law? The son Richard Barratt birth reg June 1/4 1848 has the mother's maiden name Walker,
Betsy is Elizabeth in 1861 and has a 5 year old daughter Jane Barratt but her birth reg does not give a mmn. Added:- this would normally indicate the mother's maiden name is the same as the child's last name but Betsy says her maiden name is Walker for the older children.

The image at FindMyPast is in greyscale and much easier to read. I'm pretty sure Bridget's age is 50.

Hi @crisane
Which website have you used to see the maiden name of the GRO index? I can't see the maiden name of the mother of freebmd so would love to know if I'm missing something. I do think it's her mother-in-law but wanted to build my evidence first.
Thanks so much!

Oh great! Thank you, I don't have access to the records on there but that's really helpful

Yes -- I agree with you Arthurk - definitely looks like 50 on FindMyPast.
(Crisane - well done on locating that family in 1851.)

The GRO index is the site that gives the mmn. You have to sign on but is free to use.

How did I not know this?! Thank you!

Ellie -- but you know now thanks to crisane. Remember every day is a school day!!
It's a bit of a faff in that you can only search on one year plus or minus 2 years. So when you are trying to discover all the children born to a couple, you simply have to go through several years AND on male and female separately.
In addition - you can search the death indexes on the GRO website and find ages at death, before they are shown on the Civil Registration Index on the normal sites.
