I am assisting a friend in trying to find information about her ancestor, Richard Mayne. All she knows about him is that he was born in Ireland, possibly Dublin, around 1787/1788 and served as a Lieutenant with the 30th Regiment of Foot from 1809 until his death in 1827 at the Infantry Barracks, Canterbury, Kent.
She has in her possession his 1815 Waterloo Medal which has been passed down through the generations of the Mayne family. She would very much like to try and establish how she is related to him.
I am new to Irish genealogy and would therefore very much appreciate any help in tracing Richard's birth record and family.

A Richard Mayne at Waterloo is mentioned in this article. https://www.historyireland.com/a-battle-of-giants-waterloo-wellington-and-ireland/
This list seems to indicate it's the same man (died in 1827).

I would imagine there should be a number of books mention him.
