Title: Handwriting on sheet music
Post by: Nats185 on Saturday 29 January 22 18:53 GMT (UK)
Can anyone decipher what this says? I'm hoping it was written by the composer (my 4 x gr gdad) circa 1810

Edited to add the composer is Domenico Corri

Might the surname be Shaw?

I can see where you are coming from Erato. I was thinking on the lines of Louis Shaw actually because of the 'dot' -- although it may just be a mark on the paper.

Without looking at the other replies, I immediately saw Jonathan.

Not really sure, though, as the first "a" seems to have one squiggle too many...

I would have said Louie because it looks too spaced out to be one word like Jonathan.

I saw Louie Shaw before I read the responses.

I think the cross stroke makes Jonathan more likely.

I agree. Jonathan because of the cross stroke.

Another vote for Jonathan. (My first thought when seeing the word before reading other replies)

Me too....it wasn't my first thought but the first sensible thought......had Shaw for the last bit then couldn't find a reason for the stroke across.

I agree, Jonathan. Pretty sure the dot above is simply a mark on the paper.
