Title: Name from a 1851 will
Post by: Edward Scott on Saturday 29 January 22 16:56 GMT (UK)
I think the name underlined is E (or G) Scottorve but as I cannot find any further information I may well (as usual) be wrong.

Anyone have any thoughts?

thanks

Edward

Hi,

I read E. SCOTTOWE, compare the W with the word OWN, two lines down.

Agree on Scottowe - a name once found on the Isle of Man.

Possibly Charles Skottowe - a portrait painter active in London 1830's and early 1840's

Possibly - I can recall seeing a style of C with that "extra" line in the middle but can't remember enough to find the thread.

Who is the testator?  Alternatively you can look for yourself - there's likely to be a C or two in the probate section.

Thanks, the dates are right for Charles Skottowe as well.

Testator is Mary Bedingfield proved 1851

Thanks again to you all.

I wonder where it is today along with the others (long list in the will).
