I'm not sure either Gadget, menswear didn't alter all that much and if it was 1920s I would expect to see a collar bar but not necessarily.
We need the poster to tell us which one was their Grandad and when he was born.

This one is of the OP's wife's parents and aunty and uncle, etc. that looks 1940s:

so, if it was her grandfather in this one, it would suggest an earlier date - but then it could be the other line :-\

Thanks for all your responses. Have to admit I got the photos mixed up. This was an early picture of my wifes father, UK, c1950's ish.
