Title: Finding A Potential Gretna Green Marriage Record
Post by: BigDaddy on Tuesday 18 January 22 20:22 GMT (UK)
Hi

I'm looking for a potential marriage record of two people who may have gone from England to Gretna Green in Scotland to get married at some point between 1918 and 1925. What would be the best way to search for this marriage record - I usually use the freeBMD site but I appreciate this is only for England & Wales.

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Have you tried ancestry.co.uk? They seem to say they have records from Gretna Green, although they may be incomplete as the marriages were not formal and record keeping was not necessarily strictly adhered to.

Search under marriages on Scotlands People
https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

As above, you can't do any meaningful Scottish research without Scotland's People website. It is pay per view with bought credits and not subscription

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. It seems my great-grandparents didn't elope to Gretna Green after all (which was my suspicion)
