Hi  Ducie

You have given a lot of info - but you don't say exactly what you are asking for help with.  Could you clarify please?  Are you trying to trace backwards before the marriage?

Hi Carole,
I am trying to find out who Louis's father is and where born. I have looked in Britain everywhere but to no avail. I presume Marius Martin, a solicitor, was born in Europe ? and I know that Louis's wife was born in Switzerland (according to the family). After Louis died in 1970, Alice came to Australia and d. 1987 in Victoria Aust.  Her father was Alfred Gay but have not been able to find him as there are many Gays in the records. Louis' whole name is Alfred Henri Marius Louis Martin, known as Louis. Alices' whole name is Alice Marie Aline Gay.

Many thanks for any help you can give me. Regards Ducie.

You say that Alfred was born St George in the East.  If he was b 9.12.1891 - his birth would have been registered in the December qtr 1891 or the March qtr 1892 but there is nothing on freebmd.

Where did you get his birthplace from?

The 1921 free search has (frustratingly) no place of birth indexed for Alfred Henri or Alice.

Whether it is on the original image or not, I cannot say.

I wonder if this fits:

Not easy to use.

They looked very good to me Maureen.  I was/am very impressed.
I didn’t respond before as I had contributed so little. But assumed OP would and had forgotten.

Hi to everyone,
Sorry I have taken a while to answer all those lovely people who replied to my question. But have been checking to make sure it was the right information for me. The Martin family is on my fraternal side and I have been working very hard for my 3rd cousin and his tree. We have been searching and along with the information supplied, I believe these Martins are the correct ones. It is going to take a little more work, but as with all searches for the dead, it all takes time.  Once again many thanks for the help and will notify the post what has happened. From the land of Oz, Ducie.

Hello Ducie,

Sorry that I was impatient. :)

I understand your need to "triple-check" all the info.

I've never researched in Switzerland so this was a learning experience for me. :)

The MARTIN side adds up perfectly.....it's the GAY side that's giving me trouble.
