Hello All

I'm hoping someone can decipher this occupation for me.

Can you give more info about Abel, his age, location, year and type of record.
Perhaps a misspelling of Pensioner?

Tony

Hello Tony and MCKHA

Thanks for your replies. It does seem to be Portioner but Tony if you have any other ideas heres some more information. It's taken from Abel's daughter's death certificate. The death was registered in Scotland in 1899. As for the country of origin of Abel and his daughter - I'm not sure but it was possibly / probably England and his birth year would have been c. 1800.

I can clearly read the word; it is written in the same  style I  was taught as a child and which I still use on a daily basis.

Portioner

Now to read up on that occupation or role.

JM.

Thanks majm. I did look at that thread. Is "Portioner" a term only used in Scotland or do you think / know if it was used in England?
