Recently been told there is a heading on census pages "number of children/living"
I have hard copies of my village census but cannot find anything relating to this
Does this make any sense to anyone?
Thanks

1911 census is the first to ask that question. Nothing on 1841-1901
Number of children born - number still living

Thank you CaroleW
Got the magnifying glass out and found it.
If one child is listed as " children who have died" where would I find a record of the death?
I have been through the family records BMD's in records office and there is no mention of a child dying
Thanks

How many children can you account for on previous censuses in relation to the number shown as born alive on the 1911 entry?
Use GRO online to find births with the same mothers maiden name - then link that info to the living children & any unaccounted for should be deceased.
If a baby only lived for a minute after birth - it’s birth should be registered but depending on what years are involved - you have to bear in mind that failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874

Thank you I will look at what you suggest
