Title: JOHN McGARRY Connaught Rangers.
Post by: trevalyn on Wednesday 05 January 22 17:28 GMT (UK)
JOHN McGARRY died at Gortmellia, Belmullet on 14 Aug 1917 after service with the Connaught Rangers. He was the son of Patrick and Ellen McGarry of Gortmellia; Patrick was a farmer. John's mother Ellen died at Gortmellia on 1 June 1914. John had a number of siblings including Bridget, Owen,Ellen (Eleanor), Maria and Honor.
I am trying to find where John McGarry is buried. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you, Owenree, that sounds like a good lead. Do I take it that this cemetery belongs to a Catholic church or parish? Any idea which one; I am totally unfamiliar with the area.

Here you are. It’s number 60. I looked last evening for a while and found the same information as Owenwee.
It might be that there was no headstone or it is now just worn.

From GeoHive, here's the 1829-1841 map showing Pulathomas, Carnhill and the old graveyard (with the church in ruins).
Select from Basemap Gallery, the Historic 6" Last Edition B&W.
