Title: M.C is hard to find ???
Post by: Brickwall Demolisher on Friday 31 December 21 11:04 GMT (UK)
Hi, Many thanks for reading my post.

Between the 1851 & 1861 Censuses, three individuals leave the household.
Two Daughters aged 16 and 8 and one Son Aged 14. All children of my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandmother.

The eldest Daughter, ( CHARLOTTE ( b 1833 ) is in Liverpool giving birth to her first Son in 1854 and also gives birth to her second Son in 1856 in the Liverpool area.

The youngest Daughter ( b 1843 Lambeth ) is in Greenwich, Kent and Marries there in 1867. Future Censuses have her continuing to live in Kent.

1861 Census - The Mother was widowed between 1841 / 1851 and has been the
Head of Household since.
Her eldest Son ( CHARLES b 1833 ) is now Head of Household on the 1861 Census. He has Married, his wife is twelve years older than himself??. Future Censuses have them living in Lewisham.

My problem - I have hit a Brickwall as to what has happened to the third child HENRY SADLER Born 1837.LAMBETH
I have not been able to find anything on HENRY at all. A marriage certificate was what I was hoping for.
Their Father was JOSEPH SADLER b 1802 ?? and his occupation was CARPENTER

Much appreciated if there is there anyone who is able to help on finding HENRY SADLER, Born LAMBETH, SURREY 1837

Census Ref - H0107 / Piece 1572 / Folio 67 / Page 27

Charles Sadler ...

There is a marriage 19 Feb 1854 of a Charles Sadler occ Blacksmith father Joseph occ Carpenter to Elizabeth Harris (widow) father William Heath.  That would match the 1861 entry

Hello

If you can't find him in the 1861 census, and he hasn't died, try name variations. And there are a couple of Henry Sadler army records around that period on FindMyPast. Passenger lists?

Good luck

Martin

Do you know if she remarried or when she died?  In case Henry appears with her later on.

Not all chaps married either so he could have remained single.

There's a Henry who died Jun 1918 age 81 Godstone district Surrey - have you ruled him out?

A Henry Sadler married Mary Ann Austin in Lambeth in Q3 1861, and they can be found in Lambeth 1871 onwards, although his YoB is 1835/6.  One of their children was Charles Frederick born 1874 Lambeth.  The marriage doesn't appear to be online though, so you'd need to buy the certificate.

The groom's father's name was Thomas Sadler, a bricklayer, which, sadly, doesn't match with the info in the original posting. (the parish record for this marriage is on Ancestry)

There is a Henry Sadler of the right age appearing in FindMyPast's Crime, Prisons & Punishment records in 1853 /54 but nothing to confirm that it is your Henry

Sarah and Sadler children are in Camberwell in 1841.
Possible baptism of Joseph at St. Mary Newington, 17 June 1807 :-\
Joseph s of Joseph + Sarah Sadler
born May 19 1807

Would make Sarah a bit young, to say the least, going on her census ages

More exciting stuff for Brickwall Demolisher.
There is a settlement report on a Joseph Sadler, 3 Aug 1835
In Horsemonger Lane for Debt
Wife Jane, applying for relief.
Married 5 years ago at Norwood.
Two children, Charles, 3, Charlotte, 1.

Ancestry trees don't know who he is!

It mentions that Joseph's mother was also receiving relief.
And there is indeed a report on a Sarah Sadler, 27 January 1835, apparently she was 40.
Eight children, eldest William, 15.
Claims relief by renting a house and carry on business as an Ironmonger for 50 years.

Would make her about 13 when Joseph was born? Wrong person? Step mother? :-\
