Post by: gilesc on Tuesday 30 November 21 14:18 GMT (UK)
Re Ralph Blundell of Ormskirk 1713-1777
Whilst catching up on family history I came across Captain Ralph Blundell. There are no sources given on Ancestry so I'm unwilling to use this person yet.  I have
Birth
7 Apr 1717 • Scarisbrick, Lancashire, England
Ralph Blundell Male Source IGI igi Birth 1717 Christening 7 April 1717 Ormskirk,Lancashire,England Death 1777. He married Name:
   Ann Moorcroft
Gender:   Female
Marriage Date:   4 Apr 1738
Marriage Place:   Ormskirk, Lancashire, England
Spouse:
Ralph Blundell
FHL Film Number:   1068945
But the info on Ancestry does not say whether Ralph was a sea captain or army.
I'm just hoping he wasn't part of the slave owning Blundells of Liverpool!!!!!
Can anyone help me?
Many regards
Carolyn

Have you viewed the 1777 death entry - shows “Captain Blundell Black John”

Tree on Ancestry - Have you contacted the tree owner?

According to that tree - marriage 1738 & children still being born 1768???

There is a burial shown in Ormskirk - 3 August 1777 - Ralph Blundell of Ormskirk.  No further information on the BT version (Ancestry).

The “Capt. Blundell Black John” burial was at St John's in Liverpool on 28 May 1777. Lan-OPC interprets this as someone simply called "John" with a note that it was Capt Blundell's Black John. A slave perhaps?

There is no obvious connection with Ralph Blundell.

There was a Captain Stephen Blundell around at that time, who was master and part owner of the ship Ranger, sailing between America and Europe.

The only reference to "Captain Ralph" is the tree on Ancestry.  None of the other available records show "Captain" so perhaps the tree owner could provide you with further info
