Title: Handwriting on a military record

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone can decipher this for me. It's an ancestor of mine. The entry before these lines was for good conduct in 1864. Now it looks like he's in prison. I read that first line as "Prisoner previous to trial". It's the next line that I'm struggling to decipher. Any help that anyone can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks Boombox, now that I've looked at it again it does appear to say instrument. His record shows he was switching between being a drummer and being a Private. At the time this occurred he was a Private. He may have still had his instrument though. I hope it wasn't a big drum. How on earth would he loose a drum. Oh well I guess it was Xmas time and he went AWOL with his drum so anything could happen.
