Title: Queen's Bays - Mareth Line 1943
Post by: artdec0 on Monday 15 November 21 15:54 GMT (UK)
Hi, I've just had my play staged "The Every Brothers - Their Story". Based on letters home, pay books and official letters etc.
Tom, Jack & Bill Every were all killed in WW2. Trooper Jack Every MM of the Queen's Bays died of wounds on 29/3/1943.
Would you have any information on him please? Am happy to forward what we have. Ron

1942 newspaper report for Jack Every regarding his being awarded the Military Medal:

Daily News (London)
Thursday 24 September 1942
Page 4

"GOT THE AMMUNITION Jack Every was an errand boy before he enlisted in the Queen's Bays. His home was at Lothran Street, Paddington. He and another trooper ..."

Another report from 1943 -- looks like his death notice:

Northampton Mercury
Friday 14 May 1943
Page 3

"A 21-years-old Military Medal winner. Trooper Jack Every, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Every, of High-street, Roade, has died of wounds in a field ambulance in North Africa...."

What info are you looking for? Do you have his service record from the MOD?

No, we don't. He has an elderly niece somewhere in Holland, but I have no contact details for her. Could I apply even as a non-relative?

Yes you can apply for a fee of £30 but be prepared for a very long wait https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-records-of-deceased-service-personnel

I understand the wait is currently 1+ year. If you apply without the next-of-kin's permission the MOD will redact the soldier's next-of-kin details contained in his military file.
Also, I've heard the MOD will not release any documents containing medical or disciplinary action (although dental records sometimes appear). This relates to WW2 records.
