Title: Victoria Hotel BRIGHTON mid 1950's
Post by: carolmc on Saturday 13 November 21 16:00 GMT (UK)
Trying to confirm that a seafront hotel called the Victoria existed in Brighton during 1957. I stayed there, but I'm not sure of the name! Had a classic appearance, was on a corner with entrance on the corner, 3 or 4 storys and a sort of round cupola/tower on the corner. Can anyone help with this odd request please? Regards carolmc

According to the Telephone Directory of the time 1957, The Victoria Hotel Was in Kings Road, I don’t
know Brighton but Google map show it to be the seafront.

Hi carolmc,

How about this one? (Now known as Brighton Harbour Hotel.) It's at 64 King's Road, which ties in with the road name Jebber found in the 1957 telephone directory for the Victoria Hotel.

Yes, that's right,theirchild :)

It's on the corner of Kings Rd and West St.

Interesting information about it's history here :

Hi Barbara (ellvera),

Thanks for confirming that. :)

I'm not particularly familiar with Brighton and haven't been there for quite a few years so I turned to Auntie Google for help!

I imagine carolmc will be pleased to have the question answered via the combined efforts of fellow Rootschatters.

Thanks, too, for the link to a brief article mentioning the hotel. It has apparently undergone a number of name changes over the years, being known as the Orleans, Victoria, Sheridan - and currently Brighton Harbour. (And possibly other names in between.) A nice, quick read which carolmc may also find of interest. ( I did.)

Rgds,

Thank you for all the replys. It is the correct hotel! Using your info I googled 'Kings Road Brighton' and found an old postcard which shows the building before it was painted white, which is how I remembered it. Thank you again for the help, regards carolmc TOPIC CLOSED
