Title: Census or Parish Lookup St Georges
Post by: medwaymark on Thursday 01 September 05 14:56 BST (UK)
I am looking for information on George Francis Jones who, on the 1881 census, has his birth place as St Georges, Gloucester and I worked his birth year out as around 1839. By 1881 he had moved to Greenwich, but I have no idea when he moved there.

I would like to know who his parents are, so does anyone have access to Parish records or Census data for the area to look it up for me?

Thanks,

Mark.

Sorry for delay in reply....been on holiday.

All I have is the details as on the 1881 Census.  FreeBMD do not have him or his marriage to Maria Hancock, listed yet.

If all else fails, I'll have to wait for him to appear on freeBMD.

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi,
I note that Maria, George's wife comes from Swanage Dorset. Why not try the the OPC [Online Parish Clerk]site for Dorset., Google will throw it up for you. They do have the 1841 and 1851 census. My Ancestry census says George born 1842,but its the marriage cert, that will give the best help with fathers name.

I have already used the Dorset OPC....was really helpful, found loads of ancestors on there.  On Maria's side of the family I am back to 1597 (thanks to the Langton Matravers Local History Society).  It Georges side that I am stuck on.  Thought I would be with a name like Jones.  I know that by 1861 Maria was in London, but I don't know about him.
