Title: John Palmer
Post by: Elaine280 on Wednesday 20 October 21 09:23 BST (UK)
Hi I’m looking for any information about John Palmer, in 1911 he’s living in Liverpool but he was born in Hesketh in the Forest in Cumberland in 1858.  On other census it says Carlisle.  I can’t find his birth.  On his marriage certificate in Liverpool in 1886 to Ellen Blair it says his father is John Palmer and he was a farmer and is deceased.  Any information about his parents or where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Elaine

Hi yes he’s on the 1891 census, living in Liverpool with Ellen birthplace is Carlisle and on the 1901 again with Ellen birthplace Carlisle, both 1891 and 1901 living at the same house.

I looked on 1861 nearst to his birth, there are 8 John Palmers, only one showing father John and mother Isabella, birth 1859, born Dalton living Buckabank.
I have no idea of the districts in that area

Birth John Palmer  1857 MMN Pattinson Carlisle
Marr Joseph Palmer to Martha Pattinson 1853 Carlisle

Birth John Palmer 1859 Crlisle MMN Sowerby
Marr John Palmer to Isabella Sowerby 1846 Liverpool

That is all I can come up with so far,

Thanks, I’ve ordered his sons marriage certificate as he married someone from Cumbria, married in Liverpool and are living in Windermere on the 39 register, before moving back to Liverpool where they both died.  I’m hoping there might be some clues on it.  I’m guessing he was visiting family up there when he met her.

Thanks again

Don't think it's him, I clicked on the son and clicked on a suggestion, it's come up with John Palmer in 1881 in Liverpool but married to Ann Palmer born in Dalston. My John Palmer is married to Ellen Blair.

Thanks Louisa, I found a John Palmer living with his grandparents who was born in High Hesketh but nothing after that then found another one aged 4 also living with his grandparents, a John Palmer who was a farmer but in Egremont, but when i've checked the gro website, can't find any other births.  Might have a rest on this one for a bit, sometimes I can look too much, if you get what I mean?  They make it look real easy on TV!!!

Thanks for your help

Yes it was, they are really interesting.  Whitehaven seems too far from High Hesketh, but you never know!!

There is a christening for John Palmer of High Hesket in 1854, mother Jane Palmer, no father. There is no mmn on the GRO record.

I think this might be him in 1871 living with his widowed grandmother, Elizabeth, in 1871 in Crosby on Eden, Nr Carlisle. estimated birth date 1856, and birthplace Lough Dyke, but this could possibly be the name of a farm in the Hesket/Calthwaite area.
