Title: struggling
Post by: steviebyday on Sunday 17 October 21 18:33 BST (UK)
Margaret Connor   born  1896, Liverpool, married my grandfather, Roy Hepworth, Ogley in Liverpool
Feb, 1921. her fathers name on the marriage certificate is William Connor. I have been working on
the assumption her father was William Connor b 1861, married Mary Gallagher b 1865, but the
problem is I cannot join these three people together, the Connors had four children. but I cannot put
Margaret with this family any advice would be really helpful.   regards Steve

What was her father’s occupation on marriage certificate?

Were the witnesses related?

Where have you got the name Gallagher from? I can only find one Margaret Connor birth registered in Liverpool in 1896 and the mmn is given as Moore. A William Connor married a Kate Moore June 1894 Liverpool 8b 318

The Connor/Moore birth doesn’t match the 1939 birthdate.  :-\

Was she definitely born in Liverpool?
Do you have the witness’ names?

Don't know why other than members of the family mentioned a brother named William, there is a William in this family.

I have been checking on freeBMD and there is no Hepworth/Connor marriage in 1921 and the only one around this time is in 1920 is Lilian H to John C.

Not in Lancashire Marriages on ancestry either.

Also, the earliest Roy Hepworth birth is 1911 and the earliest marriage 1936.

Can we see the marriage certificate you have?

Have you found your Connor family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses?

I only had a very quick look on the census but noticed there are couple of Margaret Connors in Lancashire born around 1896. None have a father William though there could be a number of reasons - eg death, away at the time of the census etc.  :-\

Margaret Connor   born  1896, Liverpool, married my grandfather, Roy Hepworth, Ogley in Liverpool
   Feb, 1921.

The comma in the wrong place in the OP's first post may have caused confusion. This looks like the marriage.

Thanks for that, Jool, found it now and the 1939 Register entry in Birkenhead that clearly shows her birthdate as 22 April 1896.  But what if that date is a lie.

Margaret appears to be four years older than Roy, but what if it's actually more than that, say seven years.

Consider the death of Margaret Ogley in Birkenhead Jun 1966 v10a p42 age 74 which give a birth year of 1892.

This means the Connor/Gallagher marriage in 1886 is certainly a possibility and the birth of Margaret Connor Jun 1893 Liverpool v8b p134 mmn Gallagher would match a birthdate of 22 April 1893.

Consider the death of Margaret Ogley in Birkenhead Jun 1966 v10a p42 age 74
which give a birth year of 1892.

Margaret Ogley of 3 Eltham Green Woodchurch Birkenhead died 8 May 1966 at St. Catherine’s Hospital Birkenhead. Probate 20 July to M Ogley spinster.
She would be their daughter born 1929 (mmn Connor)

Roy Hepworth Ogley of 2 Old Chester Road Birkenhead died 1 Oct 1958
Administration Chester 23 Jan to widow Margaret

family rumours she had a difficult childhood workhouse.

I don’t have access but F M P they have Liverpool Workhouse Registers

Don’t know if any of these records will relate to your Margaret Connor
there are a few entries for persons named Margaret Conner born c1888 (LWR year 1888), c1894 (LWR year 1899), c1891 (LWR year 1904)  & c1890 (LWR year 1902)

Ladyhawk, I also spent some time searching with the surname HEPWORTH.  Then it occurred to me, when I looked back at the original post, that I had never heard of an area in Liverpool called Ogley (google confirmed it).  The penny dropped  ;D
