Title: Cassidy - Francis and Manus in County Londonderry
Post by: stephaniexp on Saturday 11 September 21 12:40 BST (UK)
I am trying to find more details about a Manus and Francis Cassidy.

I have found a record of a Manus Cassidy who married a Jane McCallister, they were married in Tamlaght O'Crilly Upper, his address was Boveedy. Unsure as to when Manus was born or when he died, as haven't been able to find any other details yet.

His father is listed as Francis Cassidy on the marriage record, other than his name we have no other details.

Manus had a son called William, also born in the same area and married a Margaret Mullan at Killyguillib Church of Ireland. They had 12 children, I have already found most of their details and some are burried in Tamlaght church.

Both a Manus & a Frank Cassidy on this 1831 entry for the same location as the 1851 marriage. Could Frank be Francis?  Possibility his own father was Manus & the name was passed on to his son

1831 census has Francis Cassidy in Gortmacrane townland which is in Tamlaght O'Crilly Parish. Boveedy townland is in the same civil parish.

Cassidy if a fairly common surname in that area. For example, here's a marriage between a Cassidy of Gortmacrane to a Cassidy of Boveedy-

Bridget Cassidy of Craigavole, daughter of a Francis Cassidy, married 1878-

The previous marriage- Hanna Cassidy of Drumagarner, daughter of a Francis Cassidy (dead)-

The above will give you an idea of how difficult it might be to be sure you've found the correct branch of your family. The church registers are online & include funerals & dispensations which isn't always the case.

Just a note about the 1851 marriage- Jane McCallister, servant, Boveedy father listed as John McCallister, schoolmaster.

Her father was NOT the John McAlister, schoolmaster, of Mullahinch- his daughter Jane McAlister, also a teacher, was born c1832 but married John Boyd.
