Catherine (Katie) Cody was born in 1912 in Inistioge. She was present at her father Edward's death in 1962 in Inistioge. She was a hurling fan and there is a photo of her from about 1951 with some friends at Nowlan Park. This was published in 1989 and she was annotated as "Katie Cody R.I.P". So she died between 1962 and 1989, probably in Inistioge. Can anyone help please finding a record of her death? Thank you.

Hi,
Yes, Kate died in the County Home. 3rd January 1963 she was 81.

Errr! I just checked her father Edward, he died in 1962...he was 81. The death doesn't say Katie was his daughter. Were they Brother and sister?

Hi Maggsie. I think the Kate Cody death in 1963 (aged 81) is not the one we are looking for. I think that was Catherine Cody born on 23 May 1883 to parents Thomas and Maria Cody in Earlsgrove, Thomastown.

Do you have knowledge of her parents grave?
I realise that if you do and she is buried with them then you would know -but I thought I would try. ;)
-
With regard to my previous message, I can only see a snippet of her father’s death announcement but it looks as though it would be quite full and might mention the burial.
-
Hi, sorry but I cannot find any death for her.
I guess she never married or did she?

I'm not sure, but I don't think Katie Cody ever married. When her father Edward died in 1962 in Inistioge, he was survived by his daughter Miss Katie Cody of Inistioge, brother Mr John Cody of England, and two sisters Mrs B. Warren of Dun Laoghaire, and Mrs A. Grace of Inistioge. The plaque on Edward's grave is no longer attached to the stone so I don't know all the occupants.

Hi
Link below to this same family, which contains a lot of information:-

When Bridget Cody of High St., Inistioge (m) James Warren in 1938, her father’s name was given as THOMAS Cody, occupation Stud Groom. So, are Edward and Thomas Cody the same person?
Kind regards

Yes Catherine (Katie) Cody was born in 1912 in Inistioge to Edward and Margaret Cody. Edward was one of the eight children of Thomas and Bridget Cody. Katie died sometime between 1962 and 1989, probably in Inistioge
-
I posted that information for LH :)
Is Edward buried in a church or public graveyard?
Is it possible to find out who is buried in that grave from church/public records?
When the photograph was published, was that in her local area?
-
Hi - another family member took us into the graveyard in Inistioge between the Catholic and Protestant churches. He showed us the gravestone where Edward Cody is buried, but the metal plaque on the stone is missing.
The photograph of Katie Cody from about 1951 at Nowlan Park was published in January 1989 in The Nightingale.
-
What is/was ‘The Nightingale’?
-
It looks like The Nightingale is a journal/serial published in Inistioge/The Rower, County Kilkenny by the G.A.A. Club
-
Have you tried contacting the club to see if anyone has any memories of her?
-
I just contacted them - good idea, thanks.
-
Good luck :)

They don't have that information. I can't find Katie Cody's death in either Ireland, Scotland, England, or Wales. Perhaps she did marry later in life. She was certainly single in 1962 when she would have been about 50.
-
That’s disappointing.
Deaths after 1970 are not online so it is difficult. I only see Irish Newspaper snippets via Find my Past. Perhaps there are other sites which have fuller coverage.
Have you posted on Facebook - Remembering people and places of Inistioge
When I do a search for Katie that comes up with the other names.
Found the photo now - no other information though :-\

Katie Cody was a cousin to Bridie Warren (nee Cody). After Bridie died in 1967, Katie married her husband Jim Warren in 1969 in Dun Laoghaire. Catherine (Katie) Warren die on 6 August 1981 in Dun Laoghaire. Mystery solved - Katie didn't marry her sister's husband, but her cousin's husband. Thanks for all your help!
-
That’s great that you have solved the puzzle!
Best wishes
