There used to be a railway crossing a road in Well, Nr Alford, Lincolnshire, close to the Cricket Club. Does anyone know anything about it? There was a railway station 2 miles away in Alford so presumably the railway line crossed the road into Well. Anyone got any photos of the crossing?

You can see the location of the school on this map and other maps at different times - https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/544596/373908/12/100670 zoom in or out as necessary
The level crossing was, to the north east
Also - https://maps.nls.uk/view/114649503 - the level crossing is on the next map at top right-hand corner

The road crosses the great northern railway, east lincolnshire branch, it looks to be a crossing where the gates are opened for road traffic by a resident gatekeeper, his/her house being shown alongside on the map.
A photo may be a bit of a struggle,

The line of the old railway can be seen on a satellite view, there is now a building where the railway crossed Low Lane, looks a bit large to be a crossing keepers cottage, but may have been put to other use since the railway closed in 1970.

There is a sign on the cottage, which you can read on Google Street View.

Thank you so much for your quick replies. It is appreciated. I will think of the those trains thundering past every time I drive by. It seems to be part of a public footpath now. Thanks again.

Crossing keepers' cottages were large and very low rent to attract and keep staff. Resident meant 24/7 half day off for shopping a week.
