I know my 2 x great grandfather was PETER DOBSON, his mum was ELLEN (whose parents were THOMAS DOBSON & BARBARA DOBSON (nee DAVIES)

This is Peter in 1871 in Greenway Street with Ellen and his grandfather. I don’t know why it says Stockport on that record because the family are in Chester.

1911 is the last published online census to date.
Censuses can be viewed here https://www.familysearch.org/en/
They lack some of the detail which is available on pay sites but are good to view.
There was a register drawn up in 1939 and that can be seen on pay sites.

Just came across this post and thought I would reply.. I'm from Chester and my family are Dobsons with porphyria in the bloodline.
My great grandad lived in handbridge.
