242760 5th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers.  Killed in action 26 March 1917, formerly 10092 Cheshire Regiment.

CWGC website - Son of late William and Emma Manley of 29a St Paul's Road, Rock Ferry.  Husband of Margaret E, 1 Nelson Road, Rock Ferry.  Commemorated on Jerusalem Memorial.

June quarter 1910 - Birkenhead RD - Alfred Manley and Margaret Ellen Lee.

1911 census has the couple, with son William Frederick (2 months) living with Margaret Ellen's parents - Frederick and Alice Lee.

The very full service records for Alfred, indicate that there was a 4th child - Alice, who died aged 1 month in 1916.

Your husband was a brave and fearless soldier and the company  while mourning his death is proud to be able to place on its honours list such a heroic man".

He m at Trinity Wesleyan Chapel Rock Ferry 2 April 1910, had three sons

Hi there,
Apologies I haven't replied yet. Just going through all the info. Yes alot of it's very helpful. I wasn't aware he had a daughter Alice who died very early on. Also wargraves info very helpful. I did have some facts about his service record but its refreshed things for me.
A guy Allan kindly found me an image of Alfred in Birkenhead news.
I havent been able to locate any other images. My family seem to have no pictures or drawings of him.
Anyhow thanks to yourself and everyone for all your help. Much appreciated. Karen
