My husband always thought his mother was married before-
finally found the marriage application
I couldn’t track Paul E Herter from that date. Did he die! Were they divorced!
And my husband doesn’t know his mom and dads wedding date
Mary Czaplicka born Feb 1918 Philadelphia, died Sept 8 1967 NJ
Thomas Witts born Oct 16 1919 PA,died Nov 11,2001 NJ
I’m also looking for the death date of his Grandmother
Fannie Quinn
b:1893 PA. parents Thomas J Adams/Jane Stevenson
m: !!!!! Martin Witts/Witz 1890-1923
m: Harry Quinn 1877-1951
I have many other queries with the Czaplicka line. But at the moment I hope to solve the above 2
Thank you

these 2 - neither appear to be yours though
click on green tree -
top Mary is Philadelphia but says b 1900 Poland
in the mean time I will look for Martin Witts /Wittz
-
couldn't find Martin Witts
is this Thomas Witts - says b 1920 - 1 year out - address 2950 Belgrade - Philadelphia,Pennsylvania
says Brother in law to head of household - so I presume his sister is Viola - just seen - FANNIE QUINN is there living with them aged 47 - 1940 census

ADDED
If I am reading this right - that census has - FANNIE QUINN - with her son Thomas Witts and her daughter Viola (Witts) Erickson - living in Violas house ??...am I right ??
-
is this Paul Herter?

???

Yes You have the correct family in the 1940 census. It’s weird that the marriage date for Harry and Fannie is 1948 in W Virginia. Where they actually married in the 1940 census! My husbands family is very confusing

From the wedding application Paul’s parents are Christian Herter,Rose Pauline Euler
I found the in 1920,1930,1940 Censuses-I found the marriage of his sister Christine to Elmer Schaefer on Dec 31 1935. There is a sister Dorothy. Can’t find any information on her.
I believe Christian Herter died in 1949 and Rose in 1978. Can’t find their place of burial though

This is interesting - gives the town in Poland she was born - but she married a CZAPLICKI - same spelling but an I at the end - not an A
I wonder if Czaplicka and Czaplicki are the same family from Poland ?
3of her 4 siblings are Czaplicka with an A

It's my understanding that in Polish the surname ends in 'a' for women and 'i' for men.

Mary Czaplicka mother’s name was Michalina Kruass/Kraus/Kraus b: 1891 in Poland. Illegitimate child to Anna Kraus who came out before her. Lived in Detroit.Arranged for Michalina to come to America several years later-I think around 1911 -arranged marriage to Felix Czaplicka. married in 1912.
Chn John 1912,Sophie 1914,Stella 1916,Mary 1918,Felix 1921,Walter 1926.
I can’t find anything at all about the dad,Felix. I found a Michalina immigrating 1911-not sure.
Just found out the John changed his name to Suplicky. Have traced the rest of the family.
Just at the moment looking into the marriage of Mary Czaplicka to Paul H Herta.
And yes many use Czaplicki as their surname. Traditionally it was the “a” “i” ending. But I’ve found that if the dad used Czaplicki his daughters used it too.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. This chat room has unblocked a lot of road blocks that I’ve run into and has allowed me to continue my search.
