Hello all,
Hope you're keeping safe and well.
I was hoping if anyone knows where I can access the 1701 Stoke on Trent Parish Listing? I can't seem to find a copy of it
Thanks!
-
Stoke on Trent was only founded in 1910.
It was formed from 6 towns: Burslem, Hanley, Longton, Stoke, Tunstall and Fenton.

Midland Ancestors Shop (online) has many downloadable .pdf files of various churches in Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent. Stoke on Trent St Peter and Vincula 1689 to 1734 is available for a cost of £3.50. You do not have to be a member to buy items from the online shop

Thank you both for your replies.
Apologies, I should have noted it as Stoke-upon-Trent.
I read in the book: Tracing Your Potteries Ancestors that there is a 1701 parish listing but I can't seem to find it, doesn't look like it's available on the Midland Ancestors website either

There is some info here:
http://www.thepotteries.org/1701/1701.html
or
https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/Heritage-and-archives/Local-and-community-history/Population/Early-Population-Lists.aspx
Also on Midlands Ancestors - Book No 486, which presumably you have to buy.

Thank you for the links, I have come across these in my search for a copy. I think it looks like a case of going into the record office and finding the original.
-
The 1701 listing was published by the Staffordshire record society. I have a copy if there is anything you want looking up?

Hello - could you please have a look for any Edwards / Edwardes in Penkhull, Hartshill, Botteslow or maybe Fenton? I have two Daniel Edwards (father & son I think, both farmers) in ~1700 and a John Edwards in Fenton in the 1666 Hearth Tax. Later (around 1720 ?) the family seems to have moved to Cold Norton near Chebsey. They are ancestors of my wife's mother.
Thanks & best wishes
Chris

Many many thanks for this, it confirms that all these are the children of the same Daniel and Jane Edwards - I had wondered if there were two families as there were so many. I have 4 older children of D & J:
Daniel Baptism 06 Apr 1679 <<<< 22
Katharine Baptism 29 Aug 1680 21
John Baptism 11 Jan 1681/2 19
Jane Baptism 29 Jul 1683 17

Sorry - it got sent half way through ------- I guess they had left home - see the ages calculated for 1701 above. Daniel jr who is important to our family was later in Botteslow or nearby - do you know if the listing extended that far? I think I read somewhere that it ends suddenly somewhere around Fenton. Many thanks again for your help
-
Curiously Botteslow falls outside the listing which only covers Penkhull, Seabridge, Clayton, Shelton, Hanley and Fenton Culvert. However this may be because it fell outside the remit of Thomas Allen who instigated the compilation.
It should also be noted that ages given in the listings may not be wholely accurate and there are gaps where unnamed individuals were not recorded

Bapts of Dan/Janae Edwards are on FreeREG (you may already know this)
Besides children mentioned also are these 2;
07 Oct 1702 SAM
05 May 1706 JOSEPH
Wow looks like 16 children 1679-1706!
+ a Marriage 14 Jan 1702/3 Barlaston of a Daniel Edwards of Stoke to Hellen Hamersley

Hi,
I was wondering if you would please look up a Gabriel Keeling (m. Elizabeth nee Anchors) in the 1701 parish listings, they possibly have a son called Samuel Keeling. I was wondering if there are any dates such as his birth?
I would really appreciate the help.
-
Sorry I cant help with that request but on FreeREG there are bapts of Gabriel/Elizabeth children;
ELIZAB 25 Jan 1707/8
THOS 25 Sep 1709
GABRIEL 09 Feb 1711/2
JOSHUA 14 Nov 1714
JOHN 30 Dec 1720
ANN 11 May 1723
Use soundex option as one is Keelinge.
Abode as Hanley on Bapts
The Marriage of Gabriell Keelling to Elizth Anchors was 20 Apr 1707 Whitmore
Trish :)
Possibly earlier Burial Stoke of THOS, Son of Gabriel 01 Jun 1704
There are bapt for children of Gabriel/Sara pre 1704, Sara 1700 and Thos 1702
and a Burial of SARA 08 Aug 1704 wife of Gabr.
Marriage of Gabriel KEALING to Sara HAYNES 26 May 1700 Maer
So either more than one Gab around or he possibly married twice
-
Thank you for this, it is a large possibility that these bapts are Samuel's siblings (as he was born in 1726).
That marriage record is very useful.
Thank you again!
-
Your welcome.
It is possible Gabriel was married twice as I noted.
But only looking at the actual image of the 1707 Marriage would clear that up.
-
Hi again MrGLDNElephant
May I ask what you know about Samuel?
When/where/who he married?
Death if you have it?
Trish :)
-
Did he marry Ann Fowler and was buried 18 Dec 1816 age 90 (1726)?
7 children and one 1 bapt his occp is Feltmaker?
-
Hi Trish,
The Samuel who married Ann Fowler is the one. For a long time he has been the dead end of the Keeling line of my family tree. I have found recent research that indicates the 1701 Parish listings prove that Gabriel and Elizabeth Anchors were his parents. I cannot however seem to access a copy to prove hence I'm trying to confirm the possible connection.
He was born on Keeling's Lane, which I learnt from newspaper clippings his ancestor gave the name.
Many thanks
Jack

Hopefully Zen rabbit can help you with that.
But am I being a bit dense as I cant see how it will help of Gabriel/Elizabeth didnt marry until 1707.
