Title: McCann
Post by: lindy46 on Saturday 10 July 21 09:57 BST (UK)
I wonder if anyone can help me find information about the family [Mc]Cann.
The information I have at present is :-

Joan M McCann was born in 1934 in Erpingham, Norfolk. her parents were Selina Rogers and James McCann. They were married in 1932 in Erpingham.  Jame's father was a George McCann.
The information I am seeking is:

1} Where and when James was born?

2} where and when was George born?

3} who is Jame's mother.

I would appreciate any help as I seem to be going round in circles. Thanks in anticipation

Selina dob 11 Oct 1901, so quite a difference in age. It looks like she married someone called Jeary at some stage.

There are a couple of possibilities for James on the 1911 census, including one b Ireland - not surprising with that surname.  :)

The Jeary marriage looks like a different Selina.

Thanks for your help. I have a copy of the marriage cert for James and Selina  They married in  1932 she was 29 and he was 39 so quite a difference in age. Apparently James died fairly young I believe although I don't know when.  Selina then  married Walter Jeary in 1952.

I will send for the marriage cert tomorrow.

Good luck!
Let us know how you get on

Why did you not just let us know on the original thread?

Why start a new one?

I have just looked at the 1939  census and lo and behold there is James and Selina. It would appear either the info  re his age on the marriage cert was wrong or the census was wrong. Still I may be able to proceed. Thanks for you help.

Apologies then I was wrong. I wonder why she married as Rogers and not McCann?  So was she Seliina Elizabeth? Who was her father?

I am sorry I started a new chat but I had completely forgotten that i had already asked these questions before. A sign of getting old I am afraid.
I have now taken copies of all the previous comments so hopefully I will now be able to continue. Thanks once again

Both her names are in the index

Selina E. McCann/Selina E. Rogers married Walter Jeary, March qtr 1952, North Walsham

Walter Jeary married McCann or Rogers.

I am not sure how it works, if you marry for the second time do you put your maiden name or your previous married name on the marriage cert or census.

Hi
I am no expert. We could do with one here!
I think you put the surname you are using at the time.
Normally, a widow would be using her married name on a remarriage. Her father's name is given, so her "maiden" name is on the cert.

If Selina was widowed, then (usually) we would expect her to be indexed only as McCann.
Where we see more than one surname in the index for the bride, I think we generally associate that with a divorced lady. But there are probably other circumstances.

Glad you got the cert, sorry for worrying everybody about the old thread.
John

I'll depart now ;D
