Hi,
This might be a long shot because I have very very little information. I do not know names, countries or dates.
I have a copy of a photo of a woman that has a handwritten note saying "Mrs. Heggie was a Cameron". I also have a photo of a Mr. Heggie (son of Mrs. Heggie) that has a handwritten note "Mr. Heggie his mother was a sister of the 4 Camerons"
Can anyone help me find out who "Mrs. Heggie"'s husband was?
[I edited the caption of the photo of Mrs Heggie after taking a closer look and edited out the bit about Mr Heggie being the son of Mrs Heggie since I can no longer confirm that from the edited caption of Mrs Heggie's photo]
Thanks,

What sort of era are we talking about?
19th Century? 20th Century?
-
I really don't know. I'm assuming 1860s and later since I have photos? The only information I have is what I put in the original post. I'm also assuming that it's Ontario, Canada since that seems to be where all the other photos in the album take place. I haven't been able to find anything on FamilySearch (and I don't have a paid subscription to Ancestry at the moment).

But 19th Century, you think, and Canada.
Might be useful to have the photos dated by the experts on the Photo Restoration Board.....
That might allow us to guess the age of Mr Heggie jnr, and therefore his birth year, and from that a potential marriage date for his parents?

Yes that's what I think.
I hadn't thought of that.
-
Is Heggie the first or second name? Both could be originally from Scotland, if you get the photo dated it would definitely give more to work from.
-
only thing I can find is an ancestry tree
Isabella Cameron to David Heggie - married 1905 Abernethy, Perthshire, Scotland
Isabella does appear to have a few sisters.
But no idea if the tree is 100% accurate of course and this could be totally wrong dates we are lookign for.

Do you know what area or city in Ontario the photos are from?
What are the names of the other people shown in the other photos in the album?
That might give a clue for someone with those names in their tree.
I have Heggies and Camerons in mine but it doesn't sound (from what you have posted so far) as if it would be my family.

I did find a 1882 marriage for a John Heggie to a Flora Agnes Reid on ScotlandsPeople. On the marriage entry it does say that Flora's mother was Janet Reid, formerly Matheson, m.s Cameron (at least I think it says m.s., which I'm assuming means maiden name). Janet Reid/Matheson/Cameron is a sister to multiple male Camerons (Janet had 7 brothers and 2 sisters) so Janet does fit into my family tree. So maybe, it was "Mrs Heggie" who's mother was a Cameron and not "Mr Heggie" as the photo caption says? Time frame would fit as Flora Agnes was born in 1851. Flora Agnes died in Ontario, Canada in 1919.

Since my Camerons pretty much settled in the Toronto/Vaughan area, I'm going to assume that this would also be the area for the Heggies. I don't have any information on the photography studio that took the Heggie pictures, but other pictures in the album were taken at studios in the Toronto area.

Would you be able to post those pictures?
They sound like they might be on my tree after all. I may recognize if I could see them.
-
I can but it may not be until next weekend.
-
Never mind - I just realized I could post my copy and see if it matches. Much easier.
Is this the Mrs. Heggie you have?
If so, her husband was John Heggie, born Glasgow Gorbals 1847. He moved to Canada and died in Toronto in 1933. He and his wife were deaf and dumb.
-
Yes that is the picture of Mrs Heggie I have. Are you able to confirm that her name is Flora Agnes Reid?
-
Yes that is correct.
My scans of the photos are from the Vaughan Archives. In the Cameron fonds at the archives there is a photo of her son, John Reid Heggie, as well. Also ones of the couple's younger children, Jessie Cameron and Andrew.
-
That is where I got the photo of Mrs Heggie. There is a photo of Mr Heggie on a chair. But I didn't know about the children Jessie and Andrew. Would you be able to share those with me? I can share my email address with you in a private message.
-
Here is the "Mr Heggie" picture I have. Is this Flora's husband or one of her sons? I had to save it as a pdf to be able to attach it.
-
Yes, that is her husband. I can send the other photos privately if you like.

Thanks so much Grisel. I sent you a PM with my email address.
