Unfortunately, I cannot help with the Shaw family you are researching.
However, I see that you have interests in the Armitages of Slaithwaite.
My 2x great grandfather Edwin Hoyle (bn1823) of Slaithwaite was married to Mary Armitage (bn1824) also of Slawit.
Mary was I believe, the daughter of Jonathan Atkinson and Alice.
Do we have a link?

I have a Mary Armitage born c1824 I don't know who she married! Her parents were William Armitage and Betty Hirst.
She lived at Style/Moorside Slaithwaite, She is 20 on 1841 census and 27 on 1851.
By 1861 she has left home so I assume she marrys in that time.
Any connection?
-
Its getting late and I'm mixing my Armitages up with my Atkinsons from a different side.
I definitely mean `Armitage', Honest.
Just been on Ancestry.com.
On 1861 census, found Edwin Hoyle and wife Mary (Armitage) and family living at Moorside, Slaithwaite.
Call this coincidence or what, but they are living next door to the family of John Shaw bn Slaithwaite 1799 and his wife Hannah bn Stainland, Halifax 1798.
There could well be something in this.
I need to find a marriage for Edwin and Mary to determine Mary's father.
I'm newish to this site, wonder if I can give my email address. I think there is a way in the profile, I'll have a look.
Are you on Ancestry?

you can send emails to me by klicking on the green symbol to the left.
Marys parents live at stile which on late cenus is called 7 Moorside.
-
I am not subscribed to Ancestry but use the free search and can't find their marriage but it isn't complete.
-
Slaithwaite is listed under Huddersfield, not Halifax.
Ther are indexes to purchase at www.hdfhs.org.uk, or online at www.familyhistoryonline.net
It's probably also worth checking the Kirklees society for marriage indexes.

This is an old query, so not sure if it is answered elsewhere...
Perhaps someone can find the actual parish entry...
but when I saw the IGI filesextracted for Reuben Calvert Shaw... (they were all christened Booth Independent, Halifax )
I found a submission so not reliable but can be a good stepping stone...
for a marriage of Henry Shaw to an Ann Culvert
April 12, 1819 Halifax, Yorkshire, England
(also Grace's birth is down as - 1825)
allthe best, J.J.

This James Calvert (as in James & Grace Calvert) was elder brother to my Timothy Calvert (also buried at Booth). Timothy married Hannah Cockcroft while still a minor, so had to marry by licence and secure his father's permission. On the licence it states
that Timothy Calvert is the son of Reuben Calvert Sr. (there is also a Reuben Calvert Jr who signs the licence as a witness). So that would mean that Reuben Sr is also father to your James!
Hope this is of interest

Thanks JJ - I know how obscure and unobtainable some of this Calvert info has been, so I am glad to share what little of it I can find in various sources.
