Title: Powells of Aberbrane (Mills)
Post by: SantaT on Thursday 01 July 21 18:45 BST (UK)
I am researching an Ann Powell, said, without sourcing, to have been born in Aberbrane Mills in 1777.  I can see on the map that it is not far from Brecon, but I don't find a separate entry for Aberbrane in the listing of parishes.  In which parish would Aberbrane be, or have been in the 1770's?

Looking at the parish maps on Genuki, I think that Aberbran is in the parish of Aberysgir.  There is a piece about the village on Wiki which details the unfortunate demise of the last miller there:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aberbr%C3%A2n

Unfortunately, this was not an uncommon fate for millers who got their clothing caught in the machinery.

Post script: I've subsequently found a reference to 'Aberbran, Trallong' so that suggests it might be in Trallong/Trallwng parish.

Hi,

Trallong parish is on the West side of the River Bran. Aberyscir Parish is on the East side of the river. Aberbran Fawr is in Trallong see https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/151661/
Llanspyddid Parish is to the East of Trallong Parish and South of the River Usk.

That puts Aberbran Mill in the Parish of Trallong.

Llanfi :) :) :) :)
